Friday Night Sew-In
8:21 PM
This was my first time ever signing up for Friday Night Sew-In. What was I thinking? We are leaving on a trip for a week at 6 a.m. in the morning! But I had a couple of projects staring at me, and I wanted to play with them and accomplish something!
So, I got all of the laundry done yesterday, all of the packing done this afternoon early, and left myself some time to PLAY! A perfectly relaxing way to kick off our vacation! I had to quit a little early though, as it is almost time to put my little one to bed..
Here is what I did.. not too complex, but lots of fun. I sewed the deep orange borders to these blocks:
What took the longest was squaring them up. They were pretty uneven.. I made them by tracing a triangle cut out of regular paper onto the fabrics with a sharpie. haha Before I knew what a rotary cutter was! Just started cutting different fabrics into triangles and arranging them on the floor. I was a greenhorn for sure! :) Here is the plan for these EIGHT YEAR old blocks (which were originally made for a quilt for my 4 year old nephew .. but were somehow abandoned and have been stagnating in the closet all of this time):
I am going with a dark grey background. Feels good to be giving them a new life, and trying a modern-ish way of putting them together, since my nephew is now 12.. :/ I love how the orange is framing them out.
I also sewed something quick for my little sonny. With the fabrics that he himself picked out. :)
I heart being a mom!! (swoon) xoxo
Here he is "signing in" at preschool. Something they have to do every day. Such a cute idea his teacher had and helps them practice their writing.. The names are already getting smaller and neater.
Day 1:
Day 4: (progress)
Here is where my Friday Night Sew-In took place:
If you're here from FNSI, welcome and thanks for stopping by. I am going to look through the links when we get back from Disney.. look forward to seeing all of the sewing that went on tonight! See you in a week!

Those are beautiful blocks! Eight years is nothing...last year I finished a quilt for my aunt. She started it for birth of her first great niece. I finished it 26 years later for her great great nephew. Welcome to FNSI, and what a cute photo for your trip!
Cheers!
Ooooh I LOVE the orange on gray!! It's dramatic but in all the right ways...gorgeous! I'll definitely be coming back for more inspiration!!
You had a very production FNSI. Love the colour combination of blue and orange on your quilt blocks.
Have fun on your vacation.
Your blocks look great. Hope you have a great Disney trip. We are headed there in a few weeks.
Cheers, K
Hello Kelli,
A great start to Friday Night Sew In. Glad you got out those blocks and started the quilt again. I love the idea that your son has to sign into pre-school,a great way for them to practise writing. Enjoy Disneyland and hope you all have a fantastic holiday.
Happy days.

Hello! Glad you took part in the FNSI. I can't believe you had time to play! You will love Disneyworld! I went there about 6 years ago and had a blast! Have a great time! :)
I think the quilt will look fabulous with the colours you've chosen...

Well done Kelli...looks like you made heaps of progress....
How neat you are now making a new plan for some older blocks and it looks great. I love the pillowcase ,just adorable. Have fun in Disney!
Great blocks, Kelli! I think we all probably have some "orphan blocks"... to include "sets" at my house. :-O
I hope you have a wonderful time at DIsney! I'll wave as we drive by on the way to the Bay area... Karen
I love how the orange freshens up the blocks - they look great! Love your son's writing, he looks like he's getting the hang of signing in! Have a great holiday!

So nice you joined us for the FNSI. I love your idea for arranging the 8 year old blocks. I have a quilt top in progress for my daughter's 18th birthday, she's now turning 30! You have the prettiest ironing board I've ever seen. I wouldn't be able to stop smiling when I was ironing.
Good job - what a great way to start your vacation. Hope you enjoy/ed visiting Mickey and Minnie
Welcome to FNSI!!! I love your projects. :)
Your sashing finishes off your blocks nicely! And love the project for your sonny - it's great to include them in choosing fabric. Very cool! Hope you have a fun time away!
I wanted you to know that I just awarded you with 'The Versatile Blogger Award' over at my blog (http://vicrace.blogspot.com/). Thanks for being one of the blogs that I love to read! Congrats!
Beth here....now that looks like fun! Great job!
I love the colors in your blocks and your design looks fantastic!
Loved those bright colours in the blocks! My FNSI was a UFO; a baby blanket and the 'baby' is now 9 y/o! but the blankie is now finished! lol
Hi Kellie, I enjoyed reading about your FNSI exploits!! Love the fabrics your little boy picked out.. Hope you have a wonderful time at Disneyland..
Nice work but aren't you supposed to be in DisneyWorld having a great time?
I like the orange frames and the lay out to use all the blocks on the front. I am wondering if you will use the three different grays...I love the way they look in the picture! Very exciting quilt.
Your son has an eye for color picking and fabric. You;ll be able to ask him color advise!
