Swoon #2, and a GIVEAWAY!!!!

**If you're not interested in the Swoon update, be sure to scroll to the bottom and enter the giveaway! :o)

Oh, Swoon..

Well, I still love it, but it did have a few hiccups along the way. The biggest one was cutting one of the 3 7/8" squares into a 3 1/2" square.  Which is tragic if you're using a FQ pack for this quilt.  Because there is no room for error in the cutting.  It even says on the pattern to cut very carefully.  I thought I was.. woops.

I barely had enough of the selvage scrap edge to piece together a 3 7/8" square.

The 3 7/8" squares get sewn together to make 2 HST's so it actually effected two small sections of the block.
If you look super close, there is a tiny sliver of the white selvage that you can see, but not enough to notice too bad.  It's all I could do to save it.

That being said, I still love how it turned out.

Yep, still swooning for the swoon.
Gonna link up with Lee @ Freshly Pieced for W.I.P. Wednesday.

And now, finally we get to the fun giveaway part of the post!!!  Rebecca @ Making Rebecca Lynne and I made a pact before the start of the year to have a drama free 2012.  Last year was tough for us both with illnesses, family issues, deaths in the family, you name it.  So we got together, made a pact, and a blog button (two actually!) and have been planning to do a tandem giveaway on Valentine's Day.

Since she has somewhere very important to be right now, and will be without her computer, we put our heads together and decided that I would post both giveaways on Thursday.  I will be guest posting her Thursday Think Tank for her while she's away and setting up her giveaway, too.  That way she will have something fun to look forward to when she gets home.  So after entering here, be sure to head over there to enter there too.  That way you will have multiple chances to win!! :o)  And who doesn't love to get FREE fabric in the mail?!

So here it is..in honor of all things healthy, happy and drama free, you can win a layer cake of Little Apples by Aneela Hoey! :o)

A layer cake can be made into so many cool quilts.  I found this really neat pattern that can be made with a layer cake. You can find it at the FQS:
There are also lots of free patterns at the Moda Bake Shop!

Also, b/c it just seems appropriate for a drama free giveaway, you can win a little bonus prize to go with your layer cake.  A "peace, love, quilt" coaster from Cafepress.com.

How to enter (you can have more than one entry if you choose):

1. This giveaway is for our followers.  So leave a comment to that effect, whether you are an existing follower or a new one.  If you are a new follower, Welcome!

2.  If you want to hop on the drama free band-wagon and have grabbed one of the drama free buttons from my sidebar, leave a separate comment telling me for an extra entry.

3.  If you want to share the giveaway with your friends and choose to blog about it, you get two extra entries.  (But don't feel obligated to do this, it is not a requirement.)

That's all you have to do. :o)  We will be drawing our winners on Saturday Feb. 25th.  I hope you'll enter.  The more the merrier.  Like I said, we've been looking forward to this for a long time.  And remember, after you enter here, head over to Making Rebecca Lynne and enter there, too.  All in all, there are two layer cakes, each with a little bonus prize up for grabs.  :o)

Good Luck!!
xo

I could do with a drama free 2012 myself! Love your Swoon block again - good save with the cutting. I'm still cutting out the background fabric, waiting for the school holidays to finish before I dare to chop into the fat quarters!

I'm loving the Swoon blocks! I meant to comment on the last one. They are looking so great. I can't tell you how many times I've miscut like that--and it is always when fabric is tight! I think your save is spectacular, though. If the bit of selvage bothers you, use a black pigma pen to color it. Voila!

Your Swwon Block is just gorgeous Kelli.

Oh.... such a nice Giveaway!
I am impressed that you made a pact to ride out life's hiccups together......what an excellent CRAFTY idea!
Good luck for 2012.
I love lurking on your blogs...I am making a sockmonkey "thingy" from fabric from Spoonflower, currently.

Hello, yes I'm your follower - thank you for a great give-away! Wishing you all the best in this year - only happiness and peace :). Cheers!

When all is said and done no one is going to notice that little blip in your block. It looks wonderful! ;) And I've been a follower for a long time :)

Hi Kelli your swoon block is lovely, well done, and i am a very happy follower.xx

Kelli, I love the swoon block and the fabric. Sorry about all the illness last year I guess I missed that part. I have been a follower of yours for a while now! Thanks for sharing.

Och, sure, you can't tell from a distance that there's anything wrong, and if anyone's scrutinising it up that close and personal, you should be able to smother them to stop them talking about it (oh, whoops, would that go against the whole drama free thing? ;o) )

Patti said...

Great save on the Swoon Kelli! Not a band-aid in sight!
Great giveaway too, as I am a follower of you both. Rachel's pattern is lovely.

A. How could anyone not want to see another Swoon block? Really pretty!

B. I am a follower and I want to be entered!

C. I am adding your blog to my blogroll if you add mine. :) Does that give me another entry?

Peggy said...

Beautiful block - enough to make anybody swoon. I'm wondering how you get 3 7/8 squares to make 3 1/2" HST patches? I always have to cut 4" and then trim down. Any good secrets to share?
And I'd love to be entered in the draw - I'm a follower for sure!

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who made a cutting error making Swoon. I royally screwed up my cutting and had to walk away for a little bit. I've finally started working on it again this week. YOur block is beautiful and I'm so impressed with your fix!

I am one of your followers! Thanks for the chance to win such happy goodies!

I am a follower and I want this layer cake so bad!!!! I was looking at it the last couple of days, but either the fabric or the shipping or both are too expensive :(
I want this so bad that I am actually gonna write my first TTT-post and then I'll be back for another entry ;-)

I am also grabbing a button. I am gonna have an exciting year, but I could do without the drama ;-)

Yea giveaway. I keep looking at the swoon blocks and need to make some time (finish some current projects) But till then put me in for the giveaway.

I am a new follower and am looking forward to your future posts!!

I wish that I could anticipate a drama free year, but there's already enough drama happening to last for the full year, and we're only 7 weeks in! I'm hoping to try to stay drama free, and when the drama happends, I'll deal with it and then get back to the fun stuff ASAP.
I've been a follower of yours for a while, so I at least qualify for one entry for the giveaway!

quiltmania said...

Of course I'm a follower, throw me in the draw. A possible solution for the little bit of selvage showing is to colour it with a pigma pen. I do this if I've quilted over a dark piece of appliqué with a light thread. A little colouring with a pigma pen and no one is the wiser.

Becky said...

Well, I do like your Swoon block. It turned out really cute.
