I'm in LOVE..

..with this pattern that has me "swoon-ing" over a non-SWOON quilt. :)

Sometime around the fall of last year, I can't remember exactly when I started it, but I joined the Jack Attack quilt-along with Lynne over at Lily's Quilts.  I am so glad I did!  It was so much fun, and if anyone loves a Union Jack, you should head over there for the instructions and try it out!  You can also visit her Flickr page for lots and lots of other photos.

It's all done!  My first finish of 2013.  Does it count if I only sewed one side of the binding in 2013? :)

I'm so glad to have it finished up, and I'm in love with it.  Here are lots of photos of it all done. No one was here to help me hold it up, and it's a generous twin size, so I did my best to try and get a good photo.. excuse the surplus. :)

It was such a beast to quilt that, several times, I was tempted to throw it and/or my machine out the window.  I'm glad I persevered.

I only attempted a couple of outside shots before I decided it wasn't worth it to risk getting it dirty.

Here it is on a queen size bed, so you can see the size.. if I hadn't made it as a special gift, I would soooo keep this one!!  Does anyone else have a hard time letting go? :) I just love the colors and the fabrics, and the pattern.. everything.  It does have its share of mistakes, though.  Hopefully the recipient doesn't inspect it too closely.

I'm so glad that all of you encouraged me to stick with my initial pick for the backing.. when it arrived, I thought it might be too busy, and not the right colors, and I really wasn't feeling it, but I LOVE it now.  You all were right!!!  Thanks for the push.

Now what to make next?  I really should just go find something unfinished and work on that.  But for now, going to clip some threads and clean up "Jumbo Jack" so that he's ready to go to his new home.

It was a challenge but I learned a lot along the way and am glad I joined the QAL!  Thank you,
Lynne!

Happy Monday, and thanks for dropping in!:)

That turned out really great! It must be really hard to let it go.

Well done...I feel your frustration but good choice not to throw it or the machine out of the window!...it looks fabulous...

Your Jack came out gorgeous. I'd have a hard time letting it go too. Great job!

It's fabulous Kelli!

It turned out great. Yes, I hate to 'turn loose' a quilt when I'm done with it. I get very attached, especially since I hand quilt most of my larger quilts. That's a lot of hours to 'fall in love' with the quilt. I'm sure your friend will love it, too.

The Jack quilt is gorgeous Kelli!!!! I must have missed something...you are giving it away??? I don't think I could part with that. I sell mine, but that is really special. I want to make one, just have to make the time.
You should be really proud.

Yay, it looks great in its new home! I find if I have trouble letting go of things, it helps if I can give it to someone where I get visiting rights ;o)

What a gorgeous quilt!! I love the size of it and I think your fabrics choices are perfect!

Your quilt looks fabulous, well worth the perseverance of quilting.

Oh my goodness, it's INCREDIBLE! Congratulations on a gorgeous quilt. I can see why it will be hard to let it go. :)

It looks wonderful. The straight line quilt suits it! Congrats on the finish.

It is absolutely stunning Kelli! I'm not sure I could have given it away ;o)

It toally counts as a finish! At least it better becasue I have starts from 2012 that I plan on getting finished in 2013 and if they don't count they'll just be stuck out in limbo land somewhere.

I really like you Jumbo Jack. Beautiful colour choices.

Fabulous job on this quilt! I can see why you are having trouble letting it walk out the door! Yeah, sometimes I have trouble letting them go away without me, too!!! Now, you need to get a UFO done and then as your reward you get to start something new!

It's wonderful, I love it! And yes, stitching one side of the binding means it qualifies as a 2013 finish!

Kelli it looks wonderful!! So happy for you that you persevered with it, and the sewing machine is not languishing in the garden outside, LOL

I love this quilt, I am currently in the process of making a union jack hexagon quilt, it might take a few years, and I would love to make this too.

I need to add this to my project list. In fact, I've already bookmarked Lily's tutorial :)

FABULOUS!

What a stunning quilt Kelli! It definitely qualifies as your first finish of 2013 and I can see where this would be hard to let go! Thanks for sharing.

Well done Kelli, it is so gorgeous! Your quilting looks perfect for it, I love the shot of it on the bed, hugs Wendy

As someone who looks at the British and wonders why we ever wanted to separate ourselves from their organizational skills (I mean come on, a wedding, a diamond jubilee, and the Olympics all on time and under budget in recent memory alone!), and a huge tea drinker to boot, I love this front and back of the quilt equally. Happy first finish! Woo Hoo!

This is STUNNING. I love all the fabrics (especially the backing) but my VERY VERY favorite is the dark blue with blue medallions.

Also, a quilt-along is possibly the most charming thing I have heard of ever. I haven't done much sewing (other than the odd alterations and mending) in quite a long time. Maybe this will be the push I need to get back into it! I still have a half-finished quilt in my basket...

Yay Kelli! Doesn't it look great? I do love the straight line quilting. It really sets it off. I'm glad you went with the tea cups fabrics. It's one of my favorites.

Fabulous quilt! Well done on quilting that all yourself - it looks great!

Hey Kelli! I've been checking in on this Jack Attack quilt-along as it's such a great idea! I didn't want to make quite a large scale Union Jack so I designed a much smaller Union Jack quilt block. I'm releasing a free pattern on my blog on Australia Day so if you want to come check it out! (Could make a matching pillow! haha) This quilt though looks fabulous, and love the rich fabrics you used!

Here's the link for the preview: http://www.mollisparkles.com/2012/12/im-not-dead.html

The quilt looks awesome on your bed'! I bet it was hard to quilt - it is huge!

it is gorgeous....but you already know that! :-)

It is wonderful - yes Ihave a hard time giving some away, but others - they need to go ;-)

That is just fantastic! I would have a hard time giving it away too! The backing is perfect - great example of British humour!

Wow! Great quilt! I wish I were as good at choosing fabrics as you are!

So glad to see you finished it! Lovely finish, yay!!

Wow, what an amazing quilt! I love it with the "giant" jacks!! Whoop whoop!!

Beautiful Kelli! Your fabric choices are perfect. You are tooooo nice to give it away. Not sure I could.

I am actually quilting my biggest quilt so far at the moment so am definitely feeling the same pain. Thanks for inspiring me to just keep with it.

Absolutely adorable! Love it! Thanks for sharing this at my Pin Me Linky Party. I hope you come visit & link again.
