Market Excitement
8:04 PM
(^^^weekend-fun project^^^)
First, if you're a new follower from the Blog Hop, Welcome! I hope you'll drop in to visit from time to time. I love making new blog friends!
Second, it's almost Spring, and that means Spring Quilt Market! I have LOVED browsing through and reading all of the posts related to quilt markets and shows since I started blogging, and I am super super excited this year to get to go to Spring Market in Portland.
This will be the first ever booth for Beth from EvaPaige Quilt Designs and she has roped me into going as free labor to help her. Of course, I was all for it! :) Not only b/c it's QUILT MARKET, like there needs to be any other reason, but b/c I am going to get to meet her in person! She has become a really good blog friend, and I know we're going to have a great time there. WooHoo! I keep telling her she'd better not be some kind of Craig's List psycho stalker or something.. I mean, we are sharing a suite after all. ;) Don't worry.. I googled her and she has never attacked anyone with a rotary cutter or seam ripper. haha Just kidding, Beth. I did not google you. :) I am just trusting that you have never done those things. ;)
See? Doesn't she look
nice and trustworthy and
completely normal? :)
In prep for going, we've been emailing back and forth, and I've been trying to help her do whatever I can to make it easier on her..we've been brainstorming ideas about the booth (mostly I keep coming up with crazy wacky ideas to which she responds, no..not feasible, too crazy, etc. ha! I can't help it.. I'm really excited!!) but a couple of them have stuck. One of them being pennants to hang in the booth for her two patterns that she'd like to feature the most, Kickin' Stash and Taking Names.
So, off to the craft store I went, and only a few dollars later, I had some supplies to see what I could do.
So, off to the craft store I went, and only a few dollars later, I had some supplies to see what I could do.
Some rectangles of felt, folded in half and cut corner to corner for a triangle shape, some craft paint, foam stencil brushes, and alphabet stencils, and I had some basic pennants.
But they looked a little bare..
..so I found a couple of jelly roll strips (tiny houndstooth) and made some binding to edge them with.
Then I added two strips of white felt to each one to finish it out, and make a pocket so they can either be pinned up, or with a tiny dowel, they can be stuck into something.
My six yr. old will never let me have such fun without joining in. Esp. since we found a stencil with three trucks on it at the craft store (on clearance for ONE dollar!), so he used the leftover triangles from the two pennants above and made his own.
Not a bad afternoon craft crafternoon. :)
But he wasn't done..
He surprised me by spelling this out.. (from his favorite game, an offshoot of Angry Birds-haha) yes, it says "BAD PIGGIES". lol
Now he insists that I put binding and white felt strips on them like the ones I made.. and I will gladly do it. :) Good times!
Thanks for stopping by! Happy Monday!

Your son's flags are so cool. He's been well and truly bitten by the craft bug. Enjoy your time at the Quilt Market, looking forward to reading all about it!
Very ingenious! You are going to be in quilt vendor overload! Hope you both have a great time. Look at that boy of your's go! Too cute!
Oh how sweet is your little boy! My boys run the other way when I say lets make something...you are very lucky and very clever, well done!
Hey this is probably a seriously stupid question but I keep reading about quilt markets and they look like amazing fun. Are they only for shop owners or are they open to the public???
What a great post! Thanks for the step by step, too.
I found you today at Sumo's Sweet Stuff's Linky. I hope you can stop by my blog and leave a comment, too!

I think you may need to drum up a little enthusiasm if you're going to the quilt show. LOL! have fun.
Where to begin? There are so many things to love about this post. Perhaps I will begin by being almost insulted that you DIDN'T google me and discover the many ways my big mouth gets me in the local paper among other things. But yeah, I don't have anything as colorful in my past as seam ripper attacks. That is because I so rarely use my seam ripper.
LOVE the pennants, they are perfect. I want Manly to let us use his Big Piggie one too. And what the heck does his shirt say, because it looks way too cute!
Thank you for all you are doing, including putting up with my ogreness in having to say no to some of the ideas!
How fun! Have a great time in Portland. I've wanted to go there ever since I saw a biscuit place feature on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives!
Love the penants, your little guy looks like he had a great time and they turned out wonderful!
What a great crafter in training. Creativity must run in the family.
Ha, loving all the pennants. You're right though, she looks so normal and sensible, why is she taking you again? ;o)
Your son might just take over your crafting room while you are gone. Beware! LOL. He is tooooo cute.
So cute. I'm excited for you Kelli. Have fun.
what a clever young man you have Kelli, takes after his mum.xx
I just found you; or rather, you found me. Thanks for the visit to my blog and the comment. I love this post. Please share the saying on your son's shirt...it looks intriguing.
Have a great time at quilt market and be sure to share the experience with those of us who aren't so lucky.
