Giant Hexie Pillow?
4:04 PM
I last blogged about my missing mojo, but there was no time for missing mojo this weekend, so my 'nojo' had to turn back into mojo pronto! I had two more swap block envelopes of Taking Names blocks to work on that need to go out in the mail by tomorrow. Yikes. I finished one, and then took a break to sew for fun. You know how you have an idea in your head...
Well, I had been thinking, what if I took the Taking Names block that I've been working on for the swap, and made some to make a pillow cover out of.. a Giant Hexagon Pillow.
I decided to make the blocks all exactly the same, so that when I formed the triangles into the giant hexie, there would be a asterisk shape to the center and a natural occurring border around the whole thing. I also fussy cut the centers. I like how it turned out. (Keep your eye out for Beth's new pattern @ EvaPaige Quilt Designs). Free PR. :)
Looking at the fabrics I used, I hope the houses don't get too lost.. The houses (or stalls--Market Stalls by Alexander Henry) are so cute! I LOVE that fabric. The others are coordinates and the background is Oval Elements, that I got at the Fat Quarter Shop.
Six blocks sewn together into a giant hexie in a couple of hours. A fun break. Now I've got to decide how I'm going to turn it into a pillow cover.. borders to square it up, or just make a back and stuff it into a hexie pillow..
In the meantime, I'll be working away on my last set of swap blocks and mailing them all out tomorrow. Here's the set that I finished up yesterday. The recipient asked for black, white and grey to go with her blue strips.
The last set sent tan strips and asked for "funky" earth tones, and said to feel free to think outside the box. Hmmm.. ? Telling me to use funky tones and think outside the box.. could be dangerous. I hope she likes what I send.
Any suggestions as to how to turn the giant hex into a pillow.. cover? make it square first? just make a back and stuff it? ruffle? Input appreciated! Thanks for dropping by. :)
Happy Weekend!
xoxo

Gorgeous! I'd like to invite you to participate in my Pin Me Linky Party. It goes Fri-Tue. I allow up to 3 links each week! I am a new follower!
The giant Hexie looks great. I would just stuff it the way it is for a unique look. Anybody can make square pillows. lol.
Funky earth tones?! WTH?! The giant hexie looks kind of like a kaleidoscope, quick, go see if you can hypnotise someone with it ;o)
A big Hexie pillow would be great ; )
I agree that the hexie shape would make a gorgeous pillow cover! Love the way it looks!
I would definitely leave the giant Hexie as is, just back it and stuff it. It's awesome!
Just love this pillow top - such a gorgeous giant hexie.
I love the gint hexie! May have to steal the idea!
Definitely keep the hexie shape! Just do an envelope style (sew the front and back right sides together, leave a space for turning, then turn it right side out) You could even add piping in the seam, or topstitch around the edge to give the look of piping. Great job by the way :)
The giant hexie is so great.
I´d add a boarder (just to make it a bit bigger and to tie it together) then sew on a back, turn and stuff it into a nice hexie pillow.
That is really lovely. I would make a giant hexie pillow by sewing a backing to it. You could even add some piping around the edge.
I love the giant hexy! I like the idea of keeping it that shape, how about making it into a giant version of the pin cushion I made? http://flic.kr/p/dJATNU
Love your blocks and your fabric choices! Fantasticly yummy!
The pillow is very cool looking! I am in the minority, but I'd probably make it square just so I could buy a pillow form for it:)
I love the Market Stalls prints! I saw them online this weekend and seriously considered getting some. The bright colors in the hexi paired with the oval elements is a look I really like!
that looks great. love it!
I agree...just stuff it as it is.
LOVE your giant Hexie!!
Thanks for linking to a Round Tuit!

Sorry Laney! I didn't mean to do that to your comment! Argh!
Loving the giant hexie! No idea on how to make it into a pillow but am sure however you choose to do it, it'll be fab!
Giant hexie looks so fun!
Love your giant hexie cushion! Looking good, Wendy x
Your design on this cushion is fabulous!
I want a huge picnic blanket in the shape of that hexie. Love it! I'd just cut a back the same size and stuff it...but...I take easy routes like that! It is going to look amazing!!
Wow! That is super cool :-D I love your giant hexie, and I don't think the stalls get lost at all. Thanks for stopping by WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced!
