Dotty Jumbo Tools
11:22 AM
This was so much fun to sew up. I'm discovering that I really like trying out my own designs. And except for the border fabric and the backing fabric, I was able to use all fabrics that I had been hoarding away already. :) So this one was easy on the wallet, which I love.
Tools, Baby! It turned out a little bigger than I thought it would b/c I made the borders 6" instead of 4". It's about 60x60". Large crib/toddler size. But I like how it turned out. I suppose if you're not into brights or dots, you probably hate it. ha! I could see it made in darker more "manly man" fabrics though, as a lap quilt for the crafty man in someone's life. All of the tools were fun to make, but I think the drill is my favorite, b/c of the ric-rac drill bit.
And.. Look what I found at my local craft store for the backing..
While this isn't necessarily tool themed fabric, the colors seemed to be perfect. And I like fun printed backings, esp. on kids' quilts. I want to write this one into a pattern, too, so I think I will have Pat quilt it so it will hang flat in a photo, as nothing I quilt myself ever hangs flat. I need so much more practice!
I've been thinking about breaking this out and dusting it off, and finally quilting it.. that would give me some practice.
If I can get it quilted, and then get my nephew's quilt finished and quilted, that would be two Christmas gifts down! I'd better get to work on that. It's already October!
Thanks for dropping in, hope you have a great week!

Oh my...it turned out terrific!
I love this quilt. You should definitely do a pattern. I can think of at least 2 manly men, and another 2 manly boys, who would love a tool blanket.
E xx
It turned out great, and the backing fabric suits it well.
