Minecraft Mondays #2: Creeper

Welcome to Minecraft Mondays #2, the week of the Creeper block. :)

He's a really easy block, involving just two colors and a little slice and dice.

You'll need to pick your shade of green, and then a little bit of black.

First, cut the following:

Green

(1) 3 1/2 x 12 1/2"
(2) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 x 14 1/2"
(1) 2 X 6 1/2"

Black

(1) 3 1/2 x 14 1/2"

Next, stitch the 3 1/2 x 14 1/2" strip of black and the 2 x 14 1/2" strip of green together.

Then, cut it into (3) 3 1/2 x 5" pieces and (2) 2 x 5" pieces.

Using these pieces and the other pieces you cut, stitch together in order of the numbered arrows. :)

And then you will have a Creeper!

If you'd like to sash as you go, cut a 5 1/2 x 12 1/2" rectangle of black (or your chosen sash color) and stitch your two blocks together. If you'd like to wait, that's fine, too.  I think I'll sash as I go, so I stay caught up with it while my son is in school. I'm determined to keep it a surprise!

Stay tuned next week for the Skeleton tutorial. I actually had to google to see what this one was called. haha  It probably won't be the last time I do that. ;)

In the meantime, here are some Steve sightings from instagram (Anita in Canada, and Eileen in New Jersey)

If you missed the Steve tutorial, at the bottom of each post, I'll link to the previous post/tutorial. Thanks for popping in to visit! Happy Sewing, and if you make a block be sure to tag me. Come find me on IG @kellifanninquilts! :) It's so much fun to have friends to sew along with and spot other blocks out there! :)

Have a great week!

*1/17/2020 edit: If you'd like, come join the sew along group on my FB page. There you can see blocks from any of the three sew alongs, this or Harry Potter, or Pokemon. You can see those sew alongs by clicking the buttons in the right side bar. And please always use scant quarter inch seams for all of these blocks. I've since done a tutorial post of sorts for it, just in case anyone is unfamiliar with the term. xo

*Update 2021: I am uploading video shorts of these tutorials on youtube, come check them out. :) The Creeper tutorial can be found *HERE*. It goes together slightly different than this tutorial. Come join the fun! :)

Yay! Thank you Kelli! Can't wait to get into my sewing room today! And the skeleton looks like he's pretty easy so I look forward to him next week. (I would have to Google who these guys are too!)

My grandkids will love this! Thank you so much for sharing. Question: How much black do you anticipate needing? I hate to try to match blacks.
