Minecraft Mondays
1:04 PM
***EDIT*** Click on the Minecraft Mondays button in the sidebar for all of the block links and more info on the sew along.***
Okay, here goes. I'm about to cross the point of no return.. It's a risk putting this out there, b/c now I HAVE to do it. But I think it'll be worth it in the end.
I've been wanting to make my son another quilt, since he was three the last time I made one for him, and now he's NINE. And he LOVES Minecraft. So much that he begged for Minecraft to be the theme of his school's Literacy Night this year. ("ALL the kids LOVE Minecraft, Mom, so LOTS of kids will come!" -- I'm cochairing it again this year. It's so much fun!)
I've seen lots of Minecraft quilts on Pinterest, so I grabbed his Minecraft t-shirt, and some mini-figures he has, and snuck upstairs to try to copy their faces. :) It will finish to be regulation twin size so he can use it on his bed.
He's even been doodling his own Minecraft quilts and asking me to make him one, so I'm thinking I might have to do a reversible quilt and do this one on the other side. Or maybe this as the center and the face blocks as a border. Or make this one as a lap quilt. Haven't decided for sure, but I think I will be making this too. :) I love how it has some depth. :)
His birthday is in October so I'mhoping planning to finish it/them by then. I should have plenty of time since I'm getting a head start.
The added plan to post about it each Monday will help me stay on track. So next Monday will be the first official Minecraft Monday, and fingers crossed and knock on wood I will have finished the Steve block. :) I'll post a tutorial in case anyone else wants to make one.
I may have two of my mom friends from school joining me. They are beginners but I know they could do it b/c it's all straight lines and squares and rectangles! :)
Off to search for the perfect solid colors. And maybe Steve and I will see you here next Monday. :)
Happy Monday from the Minecraft house!

Just remember the little train 'I think I can, I think I can' and you'll get it done!
My nephews would love this..i may do a bag, wallhanging or pillow alongside you as you go!
Fabulous, my grandson loves Minecraft and I would love to make him a quilt out of these. So it is wonderful you are going to post the tutorial.
Good luck! He's going to love it.
I will need to buy solids, lots of solids. Will you post what we need also so it is an easy trip to the store?
ooooh exciting!!
If you are posting tutorials I will definitely sew along with you! {might be a week or two behind as I am going on holidays next week!}
Ok if I send this to a friend who really doesn't quilt, although I know she is more then capable, I will be sewing along with you. Please post what you can in the line of directions, tutes, you know any hints!!! Can't believe some fabric company hasn't jumped on the bandwagon, they would make a fortune. Look at the Frozen fad?? Anyway, thanks and looking forward to your posts. Patti A.
This is fantastic! My kids are gonna love this! Thank you for doing this. :)
Great idea to commit to the Monday postings - you'll have it ready by October for sure! I won't be sewing with you (I have a TON of UFO's to get under control), but I look forward to seeing each block.
Kelli, you are going to go down in history as the coolest mum EVER! your little man is going to just love it....I hope you are able to keep it a surprise for him.
Good luck!
I LOVE this! It's perfect for my boys!

I made a minecraft quilt for my grandson. I'd love to share a picture with you. I didn't have a pattern, but I found a "color by number" page on the internet and took my pattern from that. It consists of 4 different "tools" - pickaxe, shovels, cross bow, and sword and 4 bad guys: enderman, enderdragon, creeper, and skeleton. The middle of the quilt featured golden apples (which I heard were good). Not sure how to attach the picture to this, but I could email it to you. Pattern is SO simple, and the quilt took about 5 months, but during that time, I moved from Kansas City to Loveland, CO and Christmas holidays fell during that time, so that should give you some idea of how much I actually worked on the quilt.
hi,
I have a five year old boy who is going through some kind of angry time. He loves minecraft (TNT in particular..), so saw this and thinking... he needs this on his new to him bed and new to him room.
Can I join in please - I've bought the fabric required from the Fat Quarter Shop, now just need patterns and motivation...
Thank you in advance, and hope to sew with you soon..

thank you for publishing this, I made my own quilt for the grandson and he LOVES it. http://www.funasagran.co.uk/2017/05/the-making-of-bobs-birthday-present.html
I am late to the party, but my grandson would LOVE this. May not be done in time for his birthday, but there is always Christmas. THANK YOU for doing the work to create the masterpiece!!!
