Minecraft Mondays #5: Moo.
12:01 AM
Happy Monday! We're up to week five and today we're making the cow.
The brown cow, not to be confused with the Mooshroom, or as I call that one (to my son's disapproval) the red cow. :) We'll get to the Mooshroom in week #14.
Before we get on with making the cow, here's a pic of the completed row 1. It is so much fun to sash as I go and see it come together.
What you'll need for the cow is a bit of brown, gray, black, and white. I rummaged through scraps and leftovers for this one, and found two choices for brown, but used the darker one. I was really on the fence, though. I think the lighter one would have worked too. I'm happy to say that this block is made completely from my stash. :)
Cutting:
Brown: (2) 2 x 2", (3) 2 x 3 1/2", (2) 2 x 5", (2) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2",
(1) 3 1/2 x 5", (1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"
Gray: (3) 2 x 2", (1) 2 x 5"
White: (3) 2 x 2", (4) 2 x 3 1/2", (1) 2 x 5", (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
Black: (4) 2 x 2"
Piecing:
I pieced it in three sections; the left, middle and right sections. As always, stitch together in order of the #'d arrows.
Then..
And you have the cow! :)
If you're sashing as you go, cut a 5 1/2 x 12 1/2" rectangle of black and stitch to the right edge so you'll be ready to attach next week's block.
Here are some Alex blocks from last week. (Thanks for posting Eileen and Anita!) I will continue to post any blocks that I see, so keep tagging me or if you're not on Instagram, feel free to email me a photo if you'd like me to share. :)
I got an email from Bridget this last week and she is making THREE quilts, one for each grandson. I'm floored! And humbled. Thanks to all of you for joining me. :) My favorite part of this whole thing is thinking of all the happy boys who are going to be wrapped up in a quilt made with love, by someone they love, of something they love, just for them, in just a few months. :D You are all making this experience of piecing this quilt for my son so much more special! He's going to be so surprised! Esp. when I show him all of your blocks and quilts, too.
*AND* I have some extra exciting news this week!! If you haven't started yet, or if you need more fabric, Kimberly from Fat Quarter Shop contacted me and we are in the process of creating an exclusive bundle of "Minecraft Sew Along" Bella solids! So stay tuned for that. There may even be a couple of bundles to give away here soon! ;)
In the meantime, instead of posting a list of previous block links at the end of each post, I've decided to create a button and a page to make it easier. That way the links are all in one place, instead of clicking back and forth between blog posts. So if you click on this button in the sidebar, it will take you straight to a page containing all of the links and info.
In the meantime, here is a preview of next week's block. Oink.
I'll be back on Wednesday of this week to announce the Captain Jack scraps winner, and post about another quilt with another bag of scraps to give away.
Thanks for mining along! :)
xoxo

Thank you so much for sharing this with us
I'm all caught up and ready to cut for cow. SEW excited! I will be giving mine to the boys for Christmas cause i have April and September b-days. You don't even know how i wish there were more than one a week but that is where i get greedy. ;)
Moooo! This one is a bit harder. But AWESOME! I love it!
P.S. I am putting the button on my blog! :D Thanks!
Mooooo to you!
This block is my favourite so far!
I have so many grandchildren that would love a Minecraft quilt....maybe I could do each block and make them each a pillow. I will have to pin these and see if I can 'get around to it'
Thank so much for sharing and also for listing so many link ups. I am going to check out each one!
I have grandsons who would love these.
Great quilt! My daughter is so into Minecraft. Thanks for sharing your process and your blocks!
What an amazingly wonderful Minecraft quilt! My boys would go nuts over this but I'm not sure I have the patience to put one together; let alone three. I haven't made a single quilt since my youngest son was born! (I did make them each a personalized crib quilt)... This may just motivate me to try again.
I just discover your blog. I was looking for ideas for a new sewing project for my kids to do. I'm sure they'll love that idea. Thank you.
This is such a fun idea for a sew along! I'm a fan of Minecraft, thanks to my husband. I may have to use a few of these block ideas for a quilt to snuggle under while playing Minecraft with him! :)
Hi there
Just stopped by to let you know that I featured this on my Saturday Spotlight post this week!

Thanks again for linking up! Hope you have a great weekend!

Mine Craft is not in my life at all but this is a seriously cute quilt and a great idea for a quilt along. Thanks for sharing it at TGIFF.
Thanks for linking up Kelli! My sis made a creeper quilt because my nephew is a minecraft fanatic. I'm definitely going to show her your tutes!
I have just started my second quilt based on your pattern, and I just love it! One grandson discovered that the other one had gotten one, so of course I had to make one for him, too. I was so glad! This is my way of relaxing, because you have done all this work, so I just follow your lead in my own pace, and each block is so much fun. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for sharing this! I'm enjoying stitching each block. This is a project for my grandson!
