Minecraft Mondays #8: Wolf

Happy Monday!

This week is week #8, and it's the
week of Austin's favorite
character. I called it a dog, until he corrected me--the dog has a red collar. No collar means it's a wolf. :D (He did his second grade animal report on the wolf.)

For the wolf, you'll need a light gray, a dark gray, black, white, and a little bit of a brown or tan color.

Cutting:

Light gray: (1) 3 1/2 x 12 1/2"
            (1) 3 1/2 x 5"
            (1) 2 x 6 1/2"
            (1) 2 x 3 1/2"
            (2) 2 x 2"

Dark gray:  (2) 2 x 3 1/2"

Black:      (1) 2 x 6"
            (1) 2 x 5"

White:      (1) 5 x 5"
            (1) 2 x 6"
            (2) 2 x 5"

            (3) 2 x 2"

Brown:      (1) 2 x 5"

Prep:

Stitch 2 x 6" rectangles of black and white together on the long edge.

Cut into (3) 2 x 3 1/2" rectangles.

Assembly: Assemble in order of the numbered arrows, then stitch the three sections together as shown by the larger gray arrows.

And then you have a wolf!

My son helped me press seams this week. (and only burned me once!-ha) Then we sashed the wolf onto the rest of his row and here are rows one and row two.  (If you're sashing as you go, the sashing rectangles are 5 1/2 x 12 1/2".)

I can't believe we're 8 weeks in! :) He is so excited, and now wants to learn to sew.

The sew along is pressing along and the blocks are so simple that a few people who started late have caught all the way up. :D (I like simple blocks!)

Here are some of the blocks shared on Instagram this last week. It's so much fun to see your photos! @sewlamb turned her creeper into a mug rug for her son. :D (Thanks @maritahaydon, @myhandmadespace, @mellierc, @sewlamb, @sew_eileen, @kristinewithak12, @soonerlandsally, @fatquartershop for sharing!)

Next week's block is the Ocelot.

Thanks for following along, and don't forget to use the #minecraftmondays tag on Instagram. :D Keep the pictures coming!

xoxo

*Edit 1/20/2020: Be sure to always use scant quarter inch seams and if you'd like to see blocks from the other sew alongs, come join the sew along group on my FB page! And if you make any of these blocks, come find me on IG @kellifanninquilts, I'd love to see!

*Update: I'm making video shorts of these tutorials to put on youtube. Come join the fun. They're easy to pause and sew along to, if you like to sew from a laptop or tablet. :) The wolf's tutorial video can be found *HERE*.

Don't you love it when the little ones teach us? Lol. So cute - he will treasure this quilt!!

You'll know which character is which by the end of this quilt!

Hi Kelly, I posted my minecraft quilt progress in FB and on my blog and many people is asking for the pattern. I'm sending them to this blog, I hope it's ok.

Having a quilting apprentice is not without its risks. It does sound like you have found just the right subject material to spark an interest in sewing.
