Minecraft Mondays #12: Witch

Happy Monday!

This week is the last block in the third row. Just two rows left! It's going by so fast.

The witch is up today:

original

If you're going strictly by the diagram, you'll need a skin tone, some brown, gray, black, purple-ish/maroon, blue and green.

But feel free to change it up. My son wanted to play with the witch a little bit, and came up with this alternate witch. If you do this one, you'll also need a couple of patches of white.

alternate

There are just a couple of minor differences. I had drawn up the diagram for the first one, but I'll include the cutting differences for the 2nd one if you like that one better. :D

Cutting:

Skin tone:
(2) 5 x 5"
(2) 2 x 2" for original or (4) 2 x 2" for alternate witch
(3) 2 x 3 1/2" for original or (1) 2 x 3 1/2" for alternate witch

Black:
(1) 2 x 12 1/2" for original or (1) 3 1/2 x 12 1/2" for alternate witch

Gray:
(2) 2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 x 9 1/2" for original witch only

Brown:
(1) 3 1/2 x 5"
(1) 2 x 12 1/2" for original witch only
(1) 2 x 9 1/2" for alternate witch only

White, Purple, and Blue:
(2) 2 x 2" squares each of purple and blue
(2) 2 x 2" squares white for alternate witch only

Green:
(1) 2 x 3 1/2"

Prep:

Stich together sections with small gray arrows first.

If making alternate witch, replace gray rectangle in row D with 2 x 9 1/2" rectangle of brown.

Also, if making the alternate witch, for row E, stitch 2 x 2" white squares to 2 x 2" skin tone squares and use in place of 2 x 3 1/2" rectangles on outer edge of each purple eye as shown in pic above.

Assembly:

Stitch together in order of the numbered arrows.

Note: If making alternate witch, steps 5 and 6 will be combined as you will use a 3 1/2 x 12 1/2" rectangle of black in place of the 2 x 12 1/2" rectangles of brown and black.

I hope that wasn't confusing! Apparently my original witch wasn't as accurate as it could have been, according to my in house 9 year old quality assurance committee, and some last minute changes were needed. I hope your minecraft experts will appreciate our attempt at accuracy. haha :D I hope you love whichever one you decide on and let me know if you have any questions, or if the instructions just don't make sense! Here's the finished alternate witch.

We sashed row three together after making the witch, and here it is with the first two rows!

..and I got the most touching email this week from @naturalencountersappleton. She's making her special son a quilt out of her stash of civil war prints and batiks. So cool!!

I love seeing all of your blocks, and have had my eyes mist up more than once reading your messages and/or seeing your kids' or grandkids' pics with their blocks and reading about their excitement or how they want to help pick fabrics or learn to sew.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing and for making this so much fun!

Next week, it's on to the fourth row! And it'll be zombie pig-man! And I'll be sure to check with my quality assurance department for accuracy before doing the diagram next week. :D

Mine on, and have a great week!

xoxo
