Minecraft Mondays #20: Slime + a Giveaway!

Hi, friends! Happy 20th Mining Monday!

We're 20 weeks in! When I first started this, it seemed like this day would never come, but it went by really fast. This is the final Monday for the original 20 blocks, although I will be keeping Minecraft Mondays going for a while longer while I work on my son's quilt back, and a few extras that are in the works.

I'm going to add a few extra blocks, because my original plan was to make a pillow sham and throw pillow in addition to the quilt, and I've had a request for some letters.  I actually downloaded a free Minecraft font while working out the flyers for the school literacy night a few weeks ago, so I'll be adding those in case anyone wants to put a name on the quilt back or make cushions etc. They were quick to draw up. I just need to break down the diagrams. I'll post them as soon as I get them done, so if you'd like to use them, you won't have to wait several weeks for them. My son had fun helping me draw them out. :D Each one is 10 x 12".

Other letter tutorials can also be found on the Spell it with Moda blog hop. (Thanks @laurelsstitchery for letting me know!)

Some of you have made extra blocks already to make your quilts bigger, and shared with me, so with permission I'll be sharing the tutorials for those, too. :D (Stay tuned next week for extra blocks brought to you by @wisemantammy & @little.emerz!)

But for now, let's get to Slime. :D  He's a little more complicated than the previous blocks, just b/c some of his pieces are so small with odd sizes.

You'll need a lighter green, a darker green and some white.

Cutting:

Lighter Green: (1) 1 1/4 x 4 1/4"
               (1) 2 x 2 3/4"
               (1) 2 x 4 1/4"
               (1) 2 3/4 x 5 3/4"
               (1) 2 3/4 x 8 3/4"
               (1) 3 1/2 x 5"
               (1) 5 x 5 3/4"
               (1) 5 3/4 x 6 1/2"

Darker Green: (2) 1 1/4 x 1 1/4"
              (2) 1 1/4 x 2"
              (2) 1 1/4 x 2 3/4"
              (2) 2 x 2 3/4"
              (2) 2 x 4 1/4"
              (1) 2 3/4 x 2 3/4"

White: (2) 1 1/4 x 1 1/4"
       (2) 1 1/4 x 2"

Prep: Assemble two eye units according to the following diagram.

Assembly: Using the eye units that you pieced above, assemble in order of the numbered arrows first, and then according to the large gray arrows.

Here's a peek at the Ender Dragon my son drew for the back of his quilt. He copied it from his t-shirt that I copied a lot of the characters from. I don't quite have it worked out yet how big it's going to be etc.  Yep. I have my work cut out for me! This will be the first time I've ever put something pieced on a quilt back.

If you're ready to sash your quilt after this week, all of the sashing info is on the sew along page. Just click the button in the right side bar.

Sorry if I've overwhelmed you with info. Don't forget to leave a comment to enter the machine quilting giveaway and be eligible for the discount! All you have to do to qualify is leave a comment here and to be sewing along, you don't need to have your quilt top finished by a certain time or anything. :D

Thanks, friends! Have a great week!

xoxo

Free quilting sounds amazing! I have never sent out any of my quilts to a long-arm quilter, but have been really tempted a couple times. 😃 Maybe one of these days I'll be able to afford my own long-arm! We have really enjoyed this quilt along. The kids love seeing the new blocks every Monday! I'm excited to see the extra patterns, and try those as well. 😊 Maybe for pillows or mini-quilts. My email is mamamel78 at hotmail dot com.

I would love to have this quilt done by a long arm quilter! Only three blocks and I am all caught up! My grandson has been amazed that such things can be done with fabric!

Thank you so much for this fun sew along! I am making the quilt for my grandsons birthday in AUgust. Very fun quilt for this not so hip grannie!

I love the idea of the Dragon being the pieced back. I am making 2 for my grandsons and that's the one character they wanted on it that I didn't have a pattern for!! Also, Is there anyway to share ideas on how to long arm this for those who don't win the contest or have a long arm? This has been great! Thank you so much!!

New blocks coming?! To assemble or not assemble that is the question. Perhaps the front will get rearranged for new blocks. So glad I bought extra sashing fabric. Can't wait to see what else you've designed. It's been fun so far...nice easy blocks and the grandsons will love the quilt. Thank you!

This has been so much fun. My eight year old grandson and I are making it together. I cut out the fabric and he sews and irons. And he also unsews if it is his problem!! We started early in March and are all caught up. I'm not sure I want him to see the dragon.

I would love to have it quilted. patg8133@aol.com

Hi Kelli...This has been so much fun! Although my blocks are a little different...I think they still scream MINECRAFT! Thank you so very much for all your hard work...there are going to be lots of lucky kids!

Thank you so much Kelli! I have made 15 of the blocks so far and 3 of the last 5 cut out! My grandson is going to be so surprised. Thank you for sharing your gift and passion of quilting! --Leonore

I don't know what I'm going to do with myself on Mondays now! This is my first ever quilt and I have loved every moment of it. I'm pretty nervous about quilting it as I've never attempted anything even close, so winning a free one would be kind of awesome :D

Free quilting would be such a boon!

OMG free quilting? Are you serious? That would be the most amazing thing ever!! I hope I win :-D. If not, I think I'll go with the 20% off, what a great deal. This has been the most fun quilt-a-long and the first one I've finished nearly on time! Thank you!

You have done a wonderful job with this quilt tutorial! There will be many happy kiddos! The hardest part for me is the quilting. I have a few tops done and always put off the quilting! This is a fabulous and generous giveaway, thank you!!!!!

I would love to have mine quilted. I am making it for my grandson's birthday and I have taken on 3 quilts (one for each grandchild) and to have one quilted would be awesome.

This would be amazing to win!!!!! My son can't wait for it to be done! 🤗

My Grandsons will love it! They love Minecraft. gale.clement@gmail.com

If you're interested, I've worked out a preliminary pattern for the Ender Dragon. My daughter saw the picture and demanded I make it for the back of her quilt. :D I graphed it out in my cross stitch design program. Let me know if you would like a copy. :) I figure if each square is 1" or so finished, then it will fit on the back of the quilt with no problem. It came out 66 squares by 23 squares, so I'll orient it vertically when I sandwich the quilt. I still need to figure out the best way to piece it, but at least the bones are done. :)

Your instructions for the Minecraft blocks are fabulous. I have two (yes that is really two) tops done. Started on each name that I will put on the back, once all the letters show up. This was a really fun one to do. Can't thank you enough for your patterns and instructions!
