Minecraft Mondays Bonus Blocks: Spider, Cave Spider & Pick Axe

The Minecraft blocks continue, 23 weeks in now. This week the extra blocks are the spider & the pick axe. These two are really fun!

First, the spider...




You'll need some black, dark gray, lighter gray, and red.

Cutting:

Black: (1) 2 x 7"

Lighter Gray: (1) 2 x 7"

Dark Gray: (2) 2 x 3 1/2"
           (4) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
           (1) 2 x 15"
           (1) 2 x 7"
           (2) 2 x 6 1/2"

Red: (1) 2 x 15"
     (1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"

Prep:

a) Stitch 2 x 15" strips of dark gray and red together, then cut into (4) 2 x 3 1/2" sections and (2) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" sections.









b) Stitch your (4) 2 x 3 1/2" sections from above into two of the following sections.

c) Stitch your (2) 2 x 6 1/2" strips of dark gray to each side of your 3 1/2 x 6 1/2" rectangle of red as shown below.





d) Stitch 2 x 7" strips of dark gray, light gray and black together, then cut into (2) 3 1/2 x 5" sections as shown below.




Assembly: Assemble each section in order of the numbered arrows, then assemble per the large gray arrows.





Spider! eek! ;)




Note: To make your spider into a "Cave Spider", just switch out the grays for blues.

For the pick axe, you'll need three colors of blue/turqoise, two colors of brown, and a background color.

Cutting:

Light Brown: (1) 1 1/2 x 10 1/2"
             (1) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2"

Dark Brown: (2) 1 1/2 x 10 1/2"
            (1) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2"
            (1) 1 1/2 x 1 1/2"

Dark Blue: (4) 1 1/2 x 5 1/2"
           (1) 1 1/2 x 3"
           (1) 1 1/2 x 1 1/2"

Medium Blue: (1) 3 x 4 1/2"

Light Blue: (1) 1 1/2 x 3"

Background: (1) 1 1/2 x 10 1/2"
            (2) 1 1/2 x 3"
            (4) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2"
            (2) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2"
            (1) 2 1/2 x 2 1/2"
            (1) 2 1/2 x 3 1/2"
            (2) 3 1/2 x 8 1/2"
      

Prep:

a) Stitch 1 1/2 x 10 1/2" strips of white (or your chosen background--I chose purple), dark brown and light brown together, then cut into seven of the following units.





b) Stitch 1 1/2 x 4 1/2" rectangles of light brown and dark brown together, then cut into three of the following units.





c) Stitch 1 1/2 x 3" rectangles of white and dark blue together, then cut into two of the following units.




d) Stitch medium blue and light blue rectangles together, then cut into two of the following units.





e) Assemble the following unit.



Assembly: Assemble each section according to the numbered gray arrows, then assemble block.

Left Side:


Right Side:


Bottom:




Block:



And then you have a pick axe! :D

I did ours with purple background b/c it's going on the back of the quilt, and I wanted it to match the rest of the backing.
