Minecraft Quilt Bonus Blocks: TNT & Grass Cubes
12:00 AM
It's week 31 of Minecraft Mondays.. only two more to go after this!
This week's bonus blocks are the TNT & Grass cubes. It was fun to do some non-characters for a change.
*********************************
First up is the TNT block.
The measurements on this were a little tricky at first, trying to make the letters look right, but keeping it in a 12" block. But it worked out in the end, and it's really not too complicated!
For TNT, you'll need two shades of red, some white and a bit of black.
Cutting:
Darker Red: (8) 2 x 4 1/4"
Lighter Red: (8) 2 x 4 1/4"
White: (2) 2 x 5"
(1) 1 1/4 x 5"
(3) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2"
(1) 1 1/4 x 12"
Black: (1) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2"
(1) 1 1/4 x 12"
Prep:
a) Stitch 1 1/4 x 12" strips of black and white together, then cut into (2) 2 x 2 3/4" rectangles, (2) 2 x 2" squares and (2) 1 1/4 x 2" rectangles as shown below. Set aside.
b) Stitch (2) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2" strips of white and (1) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2" strips of black together as shown below, then cut into (2) 2 3/4 x 2 3/4" squares, and (2) 2 x 2 3/4" rectangles. Set aside.
c) Using 2 x 4 1/4" rectangles of light and dark red, stitch together (8) of the following units.
Assembly: Stitch together the pieces indicated by the gray arrows first, then stitch block together according to the numbered arrows.
And it's a TNT block! My two reds could've had more contrast, but we're trying to just use what we have, so my son picked out the small swiss dots for the 2nd red.
This is the one my son asked to be made into a cushion, a CUBE cushion. Which means I'll need 4 of these, and a top and a bottom. Which is a whole other block. But for now I'm just doing one. ;) Let's hope the cube cushion turns out for his birthday!
*********************************
Next up is the Grass block.
For the Grass, you'll need two shades of green and two shades of brown. (or more if you want, and have scraps--these are good for scraps!)
Cutting:
Dark Green: (1) 2 x 2"
(1) 2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 8"
Light Green: (3) 2 x 2"
(1) 2 x 8"
(1) 2 x 6"
Dark Brown: (2) 2 x 2"
(1) 2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 x 5"
(1) 2 x 6"
(1) 3 1/2 x 6"
(1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 x 17 1/2"
Light Brown: (1) 2 x 6"
(1) 2 x 17 1/2"
Prep:
a) Stitch 3 1/2 x 8" rectangle of dark green and 2 x 8" rectangle of light green together, then cut into (4) 2 x 5" units as shown below. Set aside.
b) Stitch 3 1/2 x 6" rectangle of dark brown and 2 x 6" rectangle of light green together, then cut into (3) 2 x 5" units as shown below. Set aside.
c) Stitch 2 x 17 1/2" strips of light brown and dark brown together, then cut into (5) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" squares as shown below. Set aside.
d) Stitch 2 x 6" strips of light and dark brown together, then cut into (3) 2 x 3 1/2" units as shown below. Set aside.
Assembly: Assemble pieces indicated by small gray arrows first, then assemble in order of the numbered arrows.
Grass! :D
Thanks for popping in, there are only two weeks left of extra blocks. This has been so much fun!
