Minecraft Quilt Bonus Blocks: Wither & Wither Skeleton

Happy Monday!

29 weeks in and we're doing Wither & Wither Skeleton. What will I do with myself when this whole thing is done? :) I think I will miss it.  It's been so much fun!

A couple of weeks ago, the blocks were hot. This week's blocks are dark. Gather up your grays and blacks for these.

First up is the Wither.

For the Wither, you'll need two shades of gray, some black and some white.

Cutting:

Dark Gray: (1) 3 1/2 x 8"
           (1) 2 x 7"
           (1) 2 x 4"
           (1) 2 x 3 1/2"

Lighter Gray: (1) 2 x 7"
              (1) 2 x 4"
              (1) 2 x 14 1/2"
              (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"

Black: (3) 2 x 2"
       (1) 2 x 5"
       (1) 2 x 6 1/2"
       (1) 2 x 8"
       (2) 3 1/2 x 4"

White: (1) 2 x 14 1/2"

Prep:

a) Stitch 3 1/2 x 8" rectangle of dark gray and 2 x 8" rectangle of black together as shown below, then cut into (4) 2 x 5" units. Set aside.

b) Stitch 2 x 7" rectangles of light gray and dark gray together as shown below, then cut into (1) 3 1/2 x 5" and (1) 2 x 3 1/2" units. Set aside.

c) Stitch 3 1/2 x 4" rectangles of black to 2 x 4" rectangles of dark gray and light gray as shown below.

Cut each into (2) 2 x 5" units. Set aside.

d) Stitch 2 x 14 1/2" strip of light gray and 2 x 14 1/2" strip of white together as shown below, then cut into (1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2" unit and (4) 2 x 3 1/2" units.

I forgot to get a pic of them after I cut them!

Assembly: Assemble pieces according to the small gray arrows first, then assemble according to the numbered arrows.

And it's a Wither! :D The lighting in this pic wasn't so good and the colors look off.  But you get the idea. :)

Then there's the Wither Skeleton.

Again with two shades of gray, and a bit of black.

Cutting:

Dark Gray: (1) 2 x 3 1/2"
           (1) 2 x 13 1/2"

Medium Gray: (2) 2 x 13 1/2"
             (6) 2 x 3 1/2"
             (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
             (1) 3 1/2 x 5"
             (1) 3 1/2 x 8"

Black: (1) 2 x 13 1/2"

Prep:

a) Stitch 2 x 13 1/2" strip of medium gray, then cut into (2) 3 1/2" squares and (1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2" rectangle as shown below. Set aside.

b) Stitch 2 x 13 1/2" strip of medium gray and dark gray together, then cut into (5) 2 x 3 1/2" rectangles and (1) 3 1/2" square as shown below.

Assembly: Super easy assembly this time. Just sew each horizontal row together (follow the smaller arrows), then stitch together according to the large arrows.

And it's a Wither Skelly! :D Much like the regular skeleton but without a nose and meaner looking.

Stay tuned next Monday for Silver Fish and Puffer Fish.

And now some fun news to announce! The winner of the Aurifil thread collection from the Teal Mini Swap announcement blog hop for my friend Evapaige Quilt Design's Ovarian Cancer Research fund raiser is Vicki in MN! :D Congrats Vicki! (if you'd like to sign up for the swap, click here).

Have a great week!
