Harry Potter Week 6: Whomping Willow

Welcome to Sew Along Saturday #6!

Last week was Ron Weasley, so it's only natural that this week it's the Flying Ford Anglia in the Whomping Willow!

I am most excited about this one! I knew when I was planning this, that I wanted to include the Whomping Willow but I wasn't sure I could pull it off. This was by far the hardest to draw up, and then the hardest to configure in a way that could be diced up into straight seams and simple clip & flip units. It's one of my favorite blocks, but it will probably be the most complicated block. Still, though, fear NOT. It will come together section by section, just like all the others, even though it may require some fancy clipping & flipping. Some clip & flip gymnastics. 😁 Also, it is probably best if you press seams open for this one, due to bulk. I did a combo of pressing open and pressing to one side. My friend, Aidan, aka @thegeekyquilter suggests a seam roller. I don't have one of those yet, but that might be a good thing to put in the gift guide I made for my husband. haha! (see that button in the side bar-lol)

So.. it's all straight seams.. remember, just take one section at a time, go slow, and be patient. You can do it!

It uses seven colors. Let's get started!

N
ext week it's Block 7 -- Harry's Glasses!

The glasses have been bothering me for a bit, so there will be some slight changes to make that nose piece a little more accurate, and I think both ear pieces will be black. Come back next week to see!
Don't forget to tag your photos with #hpqal2019 and #harrypotterquilt if you share your blocks on social media! Also, come share them in the sew along group on my facebook page. Aidan   has been creating albums for each block and posting the pdfs over there and generally doing a great job helping out with the group! And don't forget to check out Lorna's block at Sew Fresh Quilts

Happy Stitching! Have a great weekend!

xoxo

Thank you Kelli! I just finished it. I needed to stay very concentrated to follow the instructions. Probably not the best one to get started with the quilt along! But the result is great ( except that my dad says it is not a Ford Anglia... ).

OK, I've downloaded all but #4 & #6 for my wife. She's eager to get started but wanted to have everything up to now printed before she started...kinda makes sense to me! I'm unable to download #4 & #6 to my HD that are obviously out of sequence. Unlike the others that I've printed on my color printer for her, the download widget or icon that was displayed on the previous documents is absent. I thought I would show her what I was talking about by reopening others that I've already printed, and it's gone from these. It appears as if it allows for only one down load and/or subsequent printing and automatically enters some kind of computer coding after a single printing that prevents multiple downloads to the desktop or hard drive. Is there any way I can print #4 & #6 for her?

Thanks much,
