Harry Potter Quilt Week 12: Spell Books

Happy Sew Along Saturday #12! This weekend, we're making some spell books. 




What's an HP quilt without a few spells, and to learn the spells, you need some books. :D

So let's get started! We'll be using eight colors. Two per book and the background, and the pages.




Background:
(4) 1 1/2" sq.
(1) 1 1/2 x 2"
(1) 1 1/2 x 3"
(1) 1 1/2 x 7"
(2) 1 1/2 x 18 1/2"
(1) 2" sq.
(2) 2 1/2" sq.
(1) 3 x 4"
(1) 3 x 6"

Darker Purple:
(1) 1 1/2" sq.
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2"
(2) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2"
(1) 2 x 3"
(1) 2 1/2" sq.
(1) 3" sq.
(1) 3 1/2 x 4"
(1) 4 x 8"


Lighter Purple:
(1) 1 1/2 x 13"
(2) 2" sq.
(1) 2 x 2 1/2"
(1) 2 x 4 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2" sq.
(1) 2 1/2 x 4"


Darker Brown:
(1) 1 1/2" sq.
(1) 1 1/2 x 5"
(2) 2 x 4 1/2"
(2) 2 1/2" sq.
(2) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2"
(2) 3 1/2 x 5"


Lighter Brown:
(2) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2" sq.
(1) 2 1/2 x 15 1/2"


Red:
(2) 1 1/2" sq.
(2) 1 1/2 x 6"
(2) 2 x 3"
(1) 3 x 4"
(1) 3 1/2 x 4"


Orange:
(1) 2" sq.
(1) 2 x 6"
(1) 2 x 11 1/2"



Yellowish-White, Tan, or page color of choice:
(2) 1 1/2" sq.
(1) 1 1/2 x 2"
(1) 1 1/2 x 3"
(4) 2" sq.








Let's get started stitching!



Part One:

1. Using 1 1/2 x 2" rect. of page fabric, and 1 1/2" sq. of darker purple, make one right lower clip & flip unit.

2. Repeat using 3 x 4" of background and 3" sq. of darker purple. Then repeat using 2" sq. of page fabric.

Right Lower Clip & Flip

1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.




3. Using 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" rect. (long edge at top) of darker purple and 1 1/2" sq. of page fabric (left lower) & 1 1/2" sq. background fabric (right upper), make one left lower/right upper double clip & flip unit.

Left Lower/Right Upper Double

1. Place a square at the left end or lower left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or upper right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.






4. Assemble as shown below. Label as Part One & set aside.








Part Two:

1. Using 2 x 3" rect. (long edge up) of darker purple, and 2" sq. lighter purple (left lower) and 2" sq. of page fabric (right upper), make one left lower/right upper double clip & flip.

Left Lower/Right Upper Double

1. Place a square at the left end or lower left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or upper right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.







2. Using 2 1/2" sq. of darker purple and 2 1/2" sq. lighter purple (right lower) and 1 1/2" sq. background (left upper), make one left upper/right lower double clip & flip unit.

Left Upper/Right Lower Double

1. Place a square at the left end or upper left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or lower right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.









3. Using 2 1/2 x 4" rect. of lighter purple and 1 1/2" sq. of red, make one right lower clip & flip Unit.

4. Repeat using 3 x 6" rect. of background and 1 1/2" sq. of red.

Right Lower Clip & Flip

1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.





5. Assemble as shown below. Label as Part Two and set aside.








Part Three:

1. Using 2 x 3" rect. of red (long edge up) and 2" sq. of lighter purple (left upper) and page fabric (right lower), make one left upper/right lower double clip & flip unit.

2. Repeat using 2 x 3" rect. of red (long edge up) and 2" sq. of page fabric (left upper) and orange (right lower).

Left Upper/Right Lower Double

1. Place a square at the left end or upper left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or lower right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.







3. Using 1 1/2 x 13" of lighter purple and 1 1/2" sq. of background, make one right lower clip & flip unit.

4. Repeat using 2 x 11 1/2" rect. of orange and 2" sq. of background.

Right Lower Clip & Flip

1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.




5. Assemble as shown below. Label as Part Three and set aside.








Part Four:

1. Using 2 1/2" sq. of darker brown and 2 1/2" sq. of background (left upper) and 1 1/2" sq. of page fabric (right lower), make one left upper/right lower double clip & flip unit.

2. Repeat using 2 1/2" sq. of darker brown and 1 1/2" sq. of background (left upper) and 2 1/2" sq. of lighter brown (right lower).

Left Upper/Right Lower Double

1. Place a square at the left end or upper left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or lower right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.







3. Using 1 1/2 x 3" rect. of page fabric (long edge up) and 1 1/2" sq. of darker brown, make one right lower clip & flip unit.

Right Lower Clip & Flip

1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.




4. Assemble as shown below. Label as Part Four and set aside.







Part Five:

1. Using 2 1/2 x 15 1/2" rect. of lighter brown and 2 1/2" sq. of background make one right lower clip & flip unit.



2. Assemble as shown below. Label as Part Five and set aside.






Block Assembly:

Assemble as shown below. Your spell books are done!
