Harry Potter Quilt: Scabbers

I'm finally back with another extra Harry Potter quilt block! I've been buried with other work that I had to get done by a deadline that I can share soon. But finally! Here is Scabbers!🐁 He went through a few variations before arriving here. Thanks for all your feedback over on the sew along facebook page!
Scabbers is made up of 11 sections and a couple of extra background pieces. He will be 18" finished like all the other blocks (that can be found *HERE*), 18 1/2" unfinished. He uses six colors.
I've worked him up in two brownish gray colors to give him his patchy appearance. He might look really good from scraps, too!
Let's start cutting!
Background (A):
(16) 1 1/2" sq. (*)

Part 1:
Double Upper Corners
1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric D (long edge up) & (2) 1 1/2" sq.of Fabric A, & above method, make one double upper corner clip & flip.
**Repeat, using a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric D (long edge up) & (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A.
Left Lower/Right Upper Double
1. Place a square at the left end or lower left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or upper right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric D (long edge up) & (2) 2 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and the above method, make a left lower/right upper corner clip & flip unit.
Right Lower Clip & Flip
1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric A (short edge up) & a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric C, and above method, make one right lower corner clip & flip unit.
**Assemble as shown below. Label as Part 1 & set aside.
Part 2:
**Place 2 1/2" sq. of Fabrics A & D right sides together. Stitch from corner to corner. Trim, flip & press.
**Place a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A in the Fabric D corner, right sides together. Stitch from corner to corner to make the unit shown in the assembly diagram below.
**Assemble as shown. Label as Part 2 & set aside.
Part 3:
Left Lower Clip & Flip
1. Place square at lower end or left lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 3 1/2 x 6 1/2" rect. of Fabric A (long edge up) & a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric C, and the above method, make one left lower corner clip & flip unit.
**Assemble as shown below. Label as Part 3 & set aside.
Part 4: Assemble as shown below. Label as Part 4 & set aside.
Part 5: Assemble as shown below. Label as Part 5 & set aside.
Part 6: Assemble as shown below. Label as Part 6 & set aside.
Part 7:
Right Lower Clip & Flip
1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric A (long edge at the top) & a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric E and the above method, make one right lower clip & flip unit.
Left Lower Clip & Flip
1. Place square at lower end or left lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric E (short edge at the top) & a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric F (red), and above method, make one left lower clip & flip unit.
Double Upper Rectangle
1. Place a square at the upper end of a rectangle, right sides together.
2. Stitch from corner to corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the same end of the rectangle, right sides together. Stitch from opposite corner to corner,making sure your two seams cross each other.
5. Clip, flip & press.
**Using this same unit, and (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric D, use the above method, stitch clip & flip the upper corners of this unit.
**Assemble as shown below. Label as Part 7 & set aside.
Part 8:
Double Half Square Triangle (HST)
1. Place two squares right sides together.
2. Trace a line from corner to corner.
3. Stitch scant 1/4" from the line on both sides.
4. Cut on the line, separating the two HSTs.
5. Press open.
**Using a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric E and a 2 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and the above method, make one left upper clip & flip unit.
Part 9:
Right Upper Clip & Flip
1. Place square at upper end or right upper corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 1 1/2 x 2" rect. of Fabric A (long edge at the top) & a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric E and the above method, make one right upper clip & flip unit.
**Using a 1 1/2 x 2" rect. of Fabric A (long edge at the top) & a 1 1/2" sq.of Fabric E and the above method, make one left upper clip & flip unit.
**Assemble as shown below. Label as Part 9 & set aside.
Part 10:
Left Lower Clip & Flip
1. Place square at lower end or left lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
**Using a 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric A (long edge at the top) & a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric E and the above method, make one left lower clip & flip unit.
Right Lower Clip & Flip
1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.

Block Assembly: Assemble Parts 1-11 as shown below. You will have a Scabbers block!
I am working on a Professor McGonnagal kitty and I still need to sketch out the back, and a couple of other extra blocks, I haven't abandoned you, I promise! I need to catch up on emails and the sew along page. I'm so relieved to have the two Quilt Market quilts that I had to make all pieced and mailed off and the patterns are written and being tested. I can't wait to show you! Next weekend!

Part 1:

**Place 2 1/2" sq. of Fabrics A & D right sides together. Stitch from corner to corner. Trim, flip & press.
**Place a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A in the Fabric D corner, right sides together. Stitch from corner to corner to make the unit shown in the assembly diagram below.
**Assemble as shown. Label as Part 2 & set aside.

**Place a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, right sides together in the 'E' corner of each half square triangle. Stitch from corner to corner. Trim, flip & press.
