National Button Day: Button Quilt Block
3:30 PM
Hi there!👋
Today, I thought I'd share a short tutorial on how to make this button quilt block that I made up yesterday. Because yesterday, November 16th, was National Button Day, did you know that?
I've been thinking about making some "National Days" blocks for a while now since there seems to be a National Day for everything.🌞 I thought it'd be a fun feature to do here, once in a while, if a day inspires a block.
So when I realized it was National Button Day on Saturday, I thought what better time to start!? Off I went to stitch up this block using some Riley Blake basics that I had left over after making a couple of other projects.
I love dots. And orange. Have I mentioned I love orange? Here's proof. Shoes of the day.. 🤣
(My feet were crossed, I promise they weren't on the wrong feet!)
Well, I had every intention of doing a tutorial for this block and even had it all typed out. Before posting it, though, I wanted to be sure that I wasn't giving away anyone's pattern that they may have worked really hard on. I knew there were a few button patterns out there. So I set off to google just in case.
And then.. eek! My button looks almost exactly like one in the Button Up pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew. So after a lot of thought, I decided to just share a photo of my block, and forego the tutorial. If you'd like to make a button quilt, though, do check out Cluck Cluck Sew's "Button Up" pattern!
And fear not, there WILL be some block tutorials based on National Days, one coming *very* SOON, because the 18th happens to be a very famous mouse's birthday and I'll be back to share that block tomorrow! I'm going to keep them all around 8" so they can eventually be compiled into a scrap quilt.
See you soon & in the meantime, Happy Stitching!
xoxoxo

Cute button block. There are TWO National Sewing Machine Days every year (June and Sept). You could make a modern and a vintage sewing machine block.
PS: Orange is a great color!
