Seriously..I think it needs stitches.: Happy New Year: A 2020 Memory Block

Happy, Happy New Year!

I can't believe it's 2020 already. Time just flies so fast. I thought I'd post a fun Happy New Year block today, on this first day of the year, for my National Days scrap quilt. I thought it'd be fun to have a block that time stamped when the quilt was made.

But then I was also thinking that this 8" block would be fun to use as a label on quilts that are made in 2020.

Here's how I made it.

Fabric A (background):
(10) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(1) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2"
(3) 2 1/2" sq.
(1) 2 1/2 x 5 1/2"

Fabric B (two):
(2) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(2) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(1) 3 x 3 1/2"

Fabric C (zero):
(2) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(2) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2"

Fabric D (apostrophe):
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(1) 2 1/2" sq.

Double Upper Corners

1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.

~Using the above method, (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and a 2 1/2" sq. of Fabric B, make one double upper corner clip & flip unit.

~Repeat using (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and a 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric C-long edge at the top.

~Repeat using (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and a 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric D-long edge at the top. Repeat for total of two of these units.

Left Upper/Right Lower Double

1. Place a square at the left end or upper left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.

2. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.

3. Clip, flip & press.

4. Place a square at the right end or lower right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.

5. Stitch from right upper corner to left lower corner.

6. Clip, flip & press.

~Using the above method, (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric B-long edge at the top, make one left upper/right lower clip & flip corner unit.

~Repeat using (2) 2 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and a 3 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric C-long edge at the top.

Assemble block as shown below, using scant quarter inch seams and you will have an 8 1/2" (8" finished) 2020 quilt block.

Here's how my block turned out.

I used more Riley Blake basics scraps that I had left over from my Sew Big or Go Home quilt and my Shoephoria quilt.
