Dog Bone Quilt Block Tutorial
1:36 PM
I knew National Dog Biscuit Day was coming up and that I wanted a block for it in my National Days scrap quilt, but I had forgotten that it was TODAY! I even had a block drawn up for it already! It's a good thing it's super simple and quick, because I was able to make it up and get it posted just under the wire! It's still National Dog Biscuit Day for four more hours here on the west coast. Yikes, that's cutting it close! Without further delay, here is my quick and simple dog biscuit quilt block for National Dog Biscuit Day!
It's a rather large dog biscuit and I'm dedicating it to our rather large dog, Buster, that we lost about three years ago. He used to love the giant Milk Bones!
Here's how the giant dog bone goes together.
Fabric A (background):
(8) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 2 1/2" sq.
(2) 4 1/2" sq.
Fabric B (bone):
(2) 2" sq.
(2) 2 1/2" sq.
(2) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2"
Double Upper Corners
1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.
~Using the above method, (2) 1" sq. of Fabric A and 2 1/2" sq. of Fabric B, make one unit. Repeat for total of (2).
~Using the above method, (2) 1" sq. of Fabric A and 2 1/2 x 4 1/2" rect. of Fabric B-short edge at the top, make one unit. Repeat for total of (2).
.........................
1. Place square at lower end or left lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
~Using above method, 2" sq. of Fabric B and 4 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, make one unit. Repeat for total of (2).

~Assemble as shown below, using scant quarter inch seams.

You should have an 8 1/2" (8" finished) dog biscuit/dog bone quilt block! Here's how mine turned out.
Buster would be so proud. haha! Someday we'll have another large breed dog that will appreciate a giant treat! The right one just hasn't found us yet. I still miss Buster. You can read his tribute post *HERE* if you want to see lots of sweet dog pics. He was just the BEST! This fabric dog biscuit is for him! That does it for the National Dog Biscuit Day scrap block! I'm going to link it over on the National Days blocks page, *HERE*, just in case you're just happening onto these blocks and want to see the others. I haven't counted yet, but I'm pretty sure this is #30! 30 of 144. I'm getting there! If you make any of these blocks and post them on social media, come find me on IG @kellifanninquilts and tag me so I can see. I've been posting mine with the #nationaldaysquiltblocks. Also, if you want to see other quilters blocks from this and other sew alongs and you're on FB, come join the sew along group on my FB page. Everyone there is so kind!
Hug your dog and give him a biscuit! :D I hope you've had a great weekend and Happy Stitching!
xoxo

What a sweet block and such nice clear instructions! I just did two dog themed quilts and would have been all over this block for those quilts! I'm definitely keeping it in mind for my next one!
My large dog is in trouble. He dug in my purse and pulled out a ziplock bag with my lipsticks in it, and chewed them all up. No dog bones for him at the moment.
Love this pattern! Is there a way for Kelli to contact me?
