Music Note Quilt Block

March is full of National Days that will make cute quilt blocks for my National Days scrap quilt, so I'm back again with a music note quilt block tutorial, because it's National Marching Music Day!

For this day I drew up a simple scrappy 16th note!

I'm in awe of anyone who can be in a marching band and march all over the field in complicated formations while playing an instrument! My nephew was in his HS marching band. It took many hours of practice.

Here's how this simple block goes together.

Fabric A (background):
(5) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 3"
(1) 2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 3 x 5 1/2"
(1) 5 x 5 1/2"

Fabric B (music note):
(2) 1 1/2 x 3"
(1) 1 1/2 x 5 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 4 1/2"

Right Upper Clip & Flip

1. Place square at upper end or right upper  corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.

~Using above method, a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and a 1 1/2 x 3" rect. of Fabric B-long edge at the top, make one unit. Repeat for total of two of these units.

Double Upper Corners

1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.

~Using above method, (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and a 3 1/2 x 4 1/2" rect. of Fabric B-long edge at the top, make one unit.
~Flip unit around so the opposite long edge is at the top. Place a 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A in the left upper corner of this same unit, right sides together. Stitch from corner to corner. Trim, flip & press.

........................

~Using scant quarter inch seams, assemble block as shown below and you will have an 8 1/2" (8" finished) music note quilt block.

As you can see, I made mine truly scrappy. I didn't have a big enough black scrap to get the whole thing from one piece, and I had to piece part of my background. I really like this one. Dots are my favorite!
That's it for today's quilt block. I'll be back soon with another, I'm sure.

If you're making any of these National Days blocks and posting pics on social media, come find me on IG and tag me so I can see, @kellifanninquilts. Or you can come tag me on FB *HERE* or in the sew along group on my FB page. I'd love to see your blocks!💗🎵

This is block 33 of a planned 144. All of the other blocks and links can be found *HERE*. In a way, it seems like I'll never make it to 144, but then I can't believe I'm already at #33! I will get there! I am not giving up!

I hope your week is off to a great start, and thanks for dropping in to read!

Happy Stitching!

xoxo

After seeing this block (and special day) I might have to go watch The Music Man. Nice block.
