national crayon day

Hello, and welcome back! Today I'm posting the National Day quilt block for National Crayon Day, which was back on March 31. When I fell off the wagon in early March, I wondered if I'd ever catch up. I'm still committed to catching up and am excited to have finally gotten thru all of the March blocks. Stay tuned for April blocks! But for now, let's celebrate National Crayon Day! These crayons are different thicknesses and different sizes, just like my real life box of crazy mismatched crayons.

This block is super colorful and uses lots of scraps! That's the goal, right? I really like this one. Here's how it goes together.

Fabric A (background):
(10) 1 1/2" sq. (*)

Fabric B (dark red):
(1) 1 3/4 x 2 1/4"
(1) 2 1/4" sq.

Fabric C (lighter red):
(1) 2 1/4 x 5 3/4"

Fabric D (lighter orange):
(1) 1 1/2 x 2"
(1) 2 x 2 1/2"

Fabric E (dark orange):
(1) 2 x 5 3/4"

Fabric F (dark yellow):
(1) 1 3/4 x 2"
(1) 2 x 2 1/4"

Fabric G (lighter yellow):
(1) 2 x 5 3/4"

Fabric H (lighter green):
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/4"
(1) 2 1/4 x 2 1/2"

Fabric I (dark green):
(1) 2 1/4 x 5 3/4"

Fabric J (dark blue):
(1) 1 3/4 x 2"
(1) 2 x 2 1/4"

Fabric K (lighter blue):
(1) 2 x 5 3/4"

Double Upper Corners

1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.

  • Using above method, (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and 2 1/4" sq. of Fabric B, make one unit.
  • Repeat using (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and 2 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric D-short edge at the top.
  • Repeat using (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and 2 x 2 1/4" rect. of Fabric F-short edge at the top.
  • Repeat using (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and 2 1/4 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric H-short edge at the top.
  • Repeat using (2) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and 2 x 2 1/4" rect. of Fabric J-short edge at the top.

Thanks for popping in today. If you're just finding these blocks, I'm listing and linking all of the tutorials on National Days page, *HERE*.

If you post them on social media tag me, I'd love to see! @kellifanninquilts on IG, or on my FB page, or in the sew along group where you can see lots of these blocks, and blocks and quilts from the Minecraft, Pokemon, and Harry Potter sew alongs.

I hope this finds you well in these uncertain times. It seems the world can be a pretty dark place lately. I'll leave you with this. This past week, my family was out of town, and as we were driving to our destination, we watched this glowing rainstorm, which just seemed to be at a standstill for about 20 minutes as we got closer and closer. The sun, shining thru this storm, felt like a sign of HOPE. 💖

I hope you're doing well, hanging onto hope, staying safe, and finding time for some Happy Stitching!

Be back soon!

xoxo

Cute crayons. It's nice to finally get out like normal people after all of this craziness.
