National Pig Day Quilt Block Tutorial
6:00 AM
When I started this National Days scrap quilt, I figured I'd just make quick blocks to coordinate with some fun days and use up some scraps. Win win! I HAD NO IDEA how much I'd learn, or how much fun, or what a design challenge it would be to sketch a quick block, many times of weird things I would've never put into a quilt, and making every single thing fit into an 8" square. But here I am again! On National Pig Day! Pigs have a day? 🐖
They're not just bacon, pigs are very smart domesticated animals. They make great pets, and a few are even famous! 🐽 Let's not forget Porky Pig. Or Piglet! Or Wilbur! I can't believe I almost forgot WILBUR! (from my fav book as a kid!) And oh my goodness, Mo Willems's Elephant and Piggie! I read a lot of those books to my son when he was younger. 🐷 And Miss Piggy! Okay, I'll stop.
So here is my ode to pigs for National Pig Day. In 8" scrap quilt block form.
Let's cut!
Fabric A (background):
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(2) 2 1/2" sq.

~Repeat using 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 rect. of Fabric B-long edge at the top.
~Repeat using 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A and 2 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric B-short edge at the top.

Oink! You should have an 8 1/2" (8" finished) pig quilt block! It was fun remembering the famous pigs! I'm sure there are some that I forgot. Here's how my pig quilt block turned out using my scraps.
Thanks for popping in today! Hope you're having a great weekend. If you're just finding these blocks for the first time, you can see all of my other scrap blocks for this project on the National Days quilt blocks page, *HERE*. This is block 32/144.
If you make any and post pics on social media, be sure to tag me, @kellifanninquilts on IG, I'd love to see. Or on my FB page *HERE*. You can also find lots of other blocks and quilts posted on the sew along group on FB *HERE*. I'll be back VERY soon with another scrap block. March has a lot of fun inspiring National Days. I can't believe it's March already.
I have a couple of new patterns in my Etsy shop, too, that I'll share about soon! And another extra Harry Potter block tutorial coming soon. So many things to do! And I think my fabric just landed and will be shipped out to shops this coming week! AHHH, *all the nerves* but so excited!
Be back soon. Have a great rest of the weekend and Happy Stitching!
xoxo
