Simple Skyscape Quilt Block Tutorial
2:13 PM
Hi! 👋
Today I have..kind of an odd block to share.. for National Look Up At The Sky Day! Which was on April 14th. Even though it's late, I hope you had some time to look up at the sky this past weekend!
Since I need 144 blocks for this scrap quilt, I have to include some pretty odd National Days. I didn't even know a Look Up At The Sky Day existed. But it's fun to think about and appreciate these things as I go through the blocks. I already shared my favorite sky photo from one of my favorite places a few posts ago now, but I'll share it again, because I just love to look at it. 😍
But I love this one, too.. same trip, same place.. different day.
Never forget to look up at the sky! I only had an 8" block to work with, so I couldn't get too complicated, and still have it be a quick scrap block, so I went for a simple beach scene.
Here's how it goes together.
Fabric A (sky-background):
(4) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(2) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(2) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(1) 2 x 4 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2" sq. (+)
(1) 4 x 4 1/2"
Fabric B (sun):
(1) 3 1/2" sq.
Fabric C (sand):
(1) 2 x 8 1/2"
Fabric D (white water):
(1) 1 x 8 1/2"
Fabric E (sea):
(1) 1 x 8 1/2"
Fabric F (sailboat):
(1) 2 1/2" sq.
*Using the above method, and 2 1/2" sq. of Fabrics A & F, make one half square triangle unit.
----------------
*Using the above method, (4) 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A, and 3 1/2" sq. of Fabric B, make one unit.
----------------
You should have an 8 1/2" (8" finished) beachy scene. In honor of National Look Up At The Sky Day. By the way, I think this is block 54/144! Getting there!
🌞
I'll be back soon with another block! If you make any of these National Days blocks (I'm keeping all the posts organized *HERE*), come find me on social media and tag me! I'd love to see. @kellifanninquilts on IG, or *HERE* at my FB page, or in the sew along group on FB *HERE*, where you can see lots of blocks from this and the free Minecraft, Pokemon, and Harry Potter sew alongs.
I hope you have a great week!
Happy Stitching!
xoxo
