Scrappy Tree Quilt Block Tutorial

Hola! Happy Weekend! I'm back with the next block for my National Days scrap quilt! It's a simple tree block for Arbor Day. 🌳 Which was on April 23rd. Happy Belated Arbor Day!

Did you know that Nebraska is the home of Arbor Day? I didn't either until we crossed the state line and I snapped a photo of the sign, on our road trip last summer!

Photo proof: ha!

Shout out to Nebraska for giving us Arbor Day!

This block is super simple. Only two clip & flip corners. The green strips, and even the trunk can be from all different scraps. Scrappy is happy. 🌞

Here's how it goes together.

Fabric A (background):
(2) 1 x 1 1/2" (~)
(4) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(4) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(2) 1 1/2 x 3"
(2) 2 1/2 x 4"

Fabric B (foliage):
(2) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(1) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(1) 1 1/2 x 5 1/2"
(2) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2"
(1) 1 1/2 x 7 1/2"

Fabric C (trunk):
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)

Right Lower Clip & Flip

1. Place square at lower end or right lower corner of rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.

*Using the above method, 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric B and 2 1/2 x 4" rect. of Fabric A-long edge at the top, make one unit.

*Using the above method, 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric B and 2 1/2 x 4" rect. of Fabric A-short edge at the top, make one unit.

---------------------

Assemble as shown below, using scant quarter inch seams. You'll have an 8 1/2" (8" finished) tree quilt block to celebrate Arbor Day!

I think it'd be cute in fall colors, too. Or even just random scrappy trees in all the colors. Rainbow trees. ha! I mocked one up, with 2" sashing and all the colors, just for fun. It's fun to see what each of the blocks would look like in their own quilt. This would be an easy one for all of those 1 1/2" scrap strips.

Anyway, I know I probably sound like a broken record when I say this, but if you make any of these blocks, and post them on social media, come and find me and tag me, I'd love to see! You can find me at @kellifanninquilts on IG, or at my FB page, *HERE*, or in the sew along group on my FB page, *HERE*. You can also find lots of MinecraftPokemon, and Harry Potter blocks in the sew along group on FB. I'll link this post up over on the National Days page, where I'm keeping all of the blocks organized.

See ya next time with another block. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Happy Stitching!

xoxo

Happy belated Arbor Day to you too!

This is a great way to make a scrappy tree block! And then you put the trees into a "Forest" quilt! FUN! FUN! FUN!

Yes, I think I can make this a quilt by next Arbor Day
Thank you :)

I like how it looks like a forest turning colors in the last shot.
