buttermilk biscuit day food quilt block tutorial

Hi friends!

I'm back to share the obscure block that I mentioned in my last post. Probably no one will want to make one but me, but I couldn't pass up doing a Buttermilk Biscuit Day quilt block for my National Days  scrap quilt project! Because.. B&G was my favorite breakfast growing up! And still one of my favorites, if I'm honest. I probably only have biscuits and gravy maybe once or twice a year now, but when I do, it's a treat!

The ultimate comfort food.

Here's how this yummy block goes together. haha!

Fabric A (background):
(9) 1" sq. (~)
(4) 1 x 1 3/4"
(1) 1 1/4 x 2 1/2"
(1) 1 3/4" sq.
(1) 1 3/4 x 2 1/4"
(1) 4 1/2 x 5 1/2"

Fabric B (white-milk):
(1) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 x 2 1/4"
(1) 1 x 3"
(1) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(1) 3 x 3 1/2"

Fabric C (light gray-label):
(1) 1 x 2 1/2" (>>)
(1) 2 1/4 x 2 1/2"

Fabric D (biscuit tops):
(3) 1 x 2 1/2" (>>)

Fabric E (biscuits):
(3) 1 1/4 x 2 1/2"

Fabric F (table):
(1) 1 1/2 x 8 1/2"

Fabric G (plate):
(1) 1 x 6"

Double Upper Corners

1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.

*Using above method, (2) 1" sq. of Fabric A and 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric B-long edge at the top, make one unit.

*Repeat these steps, using (2) 1" sq. of Fabric A and 1 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric D-long edge at the top. REPEAT for total of THREE of these units.

*Repeat these steps using 1" sq. of Fabric B-right upper corner, 1" sq. of Fabric A-left upper corner, and 1 x 6" rect. of Fabric G-long edge at the top.

---------------------

Assemble as shown below, using scant quarter inch seams. Your block will be 8 1/2" unfinished, 8" when finished in quilt.

---------------------

And that's how you make calorie free buttermilk biscuits. haha!

I'm going to link this tutorial up on the National Days  scrap blocks page, with all of the other tutorials. I think this is #72/144. I am exactly halfway to my goal!

As always, if you make any of these blocks or any of my patterns or sew along blocks from MinecraftPokemon or Harry Potter, and post any pics on social media, come find me and tag me so I can see! :)

Thanks for stopping by to check out this odd block! :) I'll be back soon with the next in line, National Learn to Swim Day which has a surprise bonus block.. a two-for-one. And after that, one of my recent favorites, National BBQ Day. That's a super fun block!

See you soon!
Happy Stitching!

xoxo

Yum! I'll make a huge pan of gravy, a couple of times a year, and then have biscuits and gravy for breakfast for several days in a row (gravy re-heats well).

What fun!!! You can have the gravy.... but butter and honey or homemade jam? That’s the ticket for me! Learning to make my own biscuits is on my list for 2021....
