Frog Quilt Block Tutorial
7:38 PM
Hello again!
Today I'm sharing the quilt block and tutorial for National Frog Jumping Day, for my National Days scrap quilt. Frog Jumping Day was back on May 13th. It's block #71 out of 144.
I live near Calaveras County in CA, so this is a fun block. Calaveras County is home to the famous Frog Jumping Jubilee and the story that launched Samuel Clemens's (Mark Twain) career in fiction! You can read more about it *HERE*. It's a big thing every year that's now combined with the county fair.
Anyway, here is how this little frog jumper goes together.
Fabric A (background):
(5) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 x 1 1/4" (@)
(2) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(1) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(4) 1 1/4 x 1 1/2"
(4) 1 1/4 x 2"
(4) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(2) 1 3/4 x 2"
(1) 2" sq.
(1) 2 x 2 1/2"
(2) 2 1/2 x 3"
Fabric B (green-frog body):

(4) 1 x 3"
(3) 1 1/2 x 1 3/4"
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(2) 2 x 2 1/4"
(1) 3 1/4 x 4 1/2"
Fabric C (pink-tongue):

(1) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
Fabric D (black-eyes):

Assemble your jumping frog as shown below, using scant quarter inch seams. The block should be 8 1/2" at this point, 8" when finished in quilt.

Up next on my list is an obscure day. I'll just leave it at that. ha! It has to do with food. There are a couple of food related ones coming up that are fun actually.
If you are just finding these blocks, all of the tutorials are linked up over on the National Days page, *HERE*. If you make any and post any pics, come find me and tag me so I can see! You can find me here: @kellifanninquilts on IG, Kelli Fannin Quilt Designs on FB, or in the sew along group on my FB page, where you can see lots of these blocks, and blocks from the Harry Potter, Pokemon or Minecraft sew alongs.
I hope your Monday was tolerable and that your week is off to a good start. I'll be back soon!
Happy Stitching!
xoxo

this is cute. thank you for another sweet block. When my nephew was little he would hunt for frogs, just to catch and to hold. he never really grew out of bugs, amphibians, reptiles. I had so much fun making him clothes and such with these critters. now he and his girl friend have a business. Cold Blooded Parties. they take snakes and such to parties for kids and adults to learn and hold these critters. funny how really popular it is. especially with the younger kids. it really has become an educational thing for my nephew.
My BFF's hubby LOVES frogs! I'll have to make him a mini quilt with this block. Thanks.
You really outdid yourself with this block. I love this frog. Thank you for another great block.
