Mini BBQ Quilt Block Tutorial

Hello! Welcome back!

Today, I'm sharing a block that I drew up for National BBQ day (which was on May 16th) for my National Days scrap quilt project. This is one of my favorites!

It has the usual clip and flip corners, only a few, and a few small strips.

It has me thinking BBQ aprons and oven mitts.

Here is how it works..

Fabric A (background):
(4) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(1) 1 x 3 1/4"
(1) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(1) 1 1/4 x 2 1/4"
(1) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 1 3/4"
(1) 1 1/2 x 3 1/4"
(1) 1 3/4 x 2"
(2) 2" sq.
(1) 2 x 2 1/4"
(1) 2 x 4"
(1) 2 1/4" sq.
(1) 2 1/4 x 2 1/2"

Fabric B (red-BBQ):
(1) 3 3/4 x 6 1/2"

Fabric C (gray-BBQ legs/spatch handle):
(1) 1 x 2 1/4"
(2) 1 x 3 1/4"

Fabric D (black-wheel):
(1) 1" sq. (~)
(1) 2" sq.

Fabric E (darker gray-spatch):
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/4"

Fabric F (brown-shelf):
(1) 1 x 2 1/2" (>>)

Fabric G (green-grass):
(4) 1" sq. (~)
(1) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(1) 2" sq.
(1) 2 x 4"

Fabric H (orange-brat):
(1) 1 x 1 3/4"
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)

Double Upper Corners

1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.

*Using above method, (2) 2" sq. of Fabric A and 3 3/4 x 6 1/2" rect. of Fabric B-long edge at the top, make one unit.

*Repeat these steps using (2) 1" sq. of Fabric G and 2" sq. of Fabric D. Flip unit around and, using (2) additional 1" sq. of Fabric G, repeat in the remaining two corners so that all four corners have a clip & flip corner.

Left Lower/Right Upper Double

1. Place a square at the left end or lower left corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or upper right corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.

*Using above method, (2) 1" sq. of Fabric A and 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric H, make one unit. Repeat for total of two of these units.

*Repeat above steps, using 1 1/2" sq. of Fabric A-left lower corner, 1 1/4" sq. of Fabric A-right upper corner, and 1 1/2 x 2 1/4" rect. of Fabric E-long edge at the top.

--------------------

Assemble as shown below, using scant quarter inch seams. The block will be 8 1/2" sq. at this point, 8" when finished in quilt.

--------------------

That's it for the mini BBQ block. If you make a tiny BBQ, pleeease show me! I love this little BBQ. haha These are all the usual places you can find me:

I'll be back soon with another block. The next in line is Idaho Day.

Happy Stitching!

xoxo
