Jeep Quilt Block Tutorial
4:54 PM
I've been dicing up these blocks like crazy this holiday weekend! Next on my National Day scrap project list is this block for National Road Trip Day, which was on May 28th. I went back and changed it up a bit from the preview that I posted at the end of my last post. The tires looked too fat and were bothering me. Anyway, I reworked it and here it is! I love this one!
Last summer, (2019) we went on an epic road trip for three weeks in our red Jeep. Well, only two weeks on the road, the middle week was spent at my parents' house in MO. We basically went in a great big meandering loop, going the southern route on the way there and the northern route on the way home. We saw a few National Parks and some National Monuments along the way and even went to Nebraska to the International Quilt Museum. On our way back, we decided to spend one night in Jackson Hole, WY to see Grand Teton National Park. We loved it and knew we wanted to go back when we had more time to take it all in. (It's about 14 hrs. away from where we live.)
Fast forward to this past June, when covid restrictions were loosening up, but no one was really out and about that much yet, I checked room rates there and they were sooooo cheap, we decided to make a run for it. We made the long drive and stayed for five of the best post-lockdown days EVER. Fresh air, stunning vistas and hardly any other people. It was heaven. So much so that we made the drive one more time in October for school's fall break. This time, we found a budget friendly place to stay with a tiny kitchen and took all our own food. Super safe, fresh air, it's our happy place. We heard elk bugling, saw moose, bison, a black bear in the top of a tree, a wolf ran across the road in front of us.. we already want to go back!
So this block represents all of our road trip memories, esp. GTNP. I can't wait to tick some more National Parks off of our wish list.
Here's how this block goes together.

I love this block!
This pic is from our trip in October. Zero editing, I just snapped it with my phone. At this point, it's safe to say that we LOVE a road trip, and our very fav National Park is Grand Teton.
Thanks for listening to me drone on about our road trip experiences. ahaha I spared you the details of the couple of shady middle-of-nowhere motel experiences that we had where I was sure we'd walk out with cooties the next a.m. haha Not funny at the time but we laugh about it now. I'm so glad there is a National Road Trip Day so I could do this block!
I'll be back soon with another. The next in line is for Memorial Day. I did a red poppy.
Hope you're enjoying the weekend. Thanks for dropping in.
If you're just finding these blocks, I'm keeping them all organized on the National Days page, or you can find them by clicking on the button in the right side bar up there. I think this is number 78 of 144. If you make any and post on social media, come find me so I can see. You can find me at these places:
Happy Stitching!
xoxo

Thank you for another great block. You did a great job reworking it. I love this. Looks like we are on a trip.
Thank you for sharing your trip to Grand Teton. I love that your inspiration for the jeep block is featured prominently in the photo. We live in NY. While there are many beautiful things to experience (we live near the ocean), our trips to California, Arizona, and Nevada gave us an appreciation for the awe inspiring beauty of the western part of the country. Thanks for another great block. The jeep looks poised for a great adventure.
Hubby and his family have been to Jackson Hole and Grand Tetons, but I haven't. Glad you enjoyed it. I like to go places where there aren't that many people and just see the nature.
