National Flag Day Quilt Block Tutorial

Hello! Long time no see! It's so nice to be back doing something I love. 2021 has been a challenge to put it mildly! But more on that in its own post later. Huge thanks to those who sent messages and prayers. I, and my whole family, appreciate it so much! But for now, I just want to dissect this 8" flag quilt block for you! Something I was working on when my health took a great big sideways detour back in the Spring. Flag Day was June 14th.

This little flag block is pretty simple. Simple and small-scrap friendly is the goal of this whole project. OK! Here are the sizes and colors to cut!

Fabric A--flag pole
(1) 1 1/4 x 8 1/2"

Fabric B--red stripes
(2) 1 1/4 x 4"
(2) 1 1/4 x 7 3/4"

Fabric C--white stripes
(2) 1 1/4 x 4"
(1) 1 1/4 x 7 3/4"

Fabric D--sky blue
(1) 3 1/4 x 7 3/4"

Fabric E--dark blue print
(1) 3 1/2 x 4 1/4"

Using SCANT quarter inch seams (tutorial *here*), stitch your flag block together according to the diagram below. It will be 8 1/2" square at this point, 8" square when finished in quilt.

Before I had gone into the hospital, I was playing with making little short videos for youtube. *Here* is the Flag Day tutorial video. (note: I changed up the fabric letters in the video by accident but as long as you follow the video OR the written you'll be fine. Just don't mix them.)

Thanks so much for dropping in to see what I'm up to today. And really.. thank you THANK YOU for the prayers and well wishes! I'll be back soon. I finally feel like I have the mental bandwidth and attention span to get back to some regular life! God is good! I've missed being creative! I'll leave you with a mock-up of scrappy flags.

Talk soon!

xoxo

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you post on social media, please come find me in any of these places and tag me so I can see! :)

Seeing your post in my mailbox made me so happy I almost did cartwheels. But that’s a bit too much at my age. Good to hear you are on the mend. Sending big hugs and continued prayers. Missed you bunches.

I just got caught up on your blog posts (from newest to oldest, backwards, I know). What great blocks. Cool to have your patterns and pins sold by others, too. Glad you are doing better and blogging again.
