Arizona Star Quilt Block Tutorial

Hello! I hope you're having a great week! I'm back today with the next National Day scrap project block. Today's block is for National Arizona Day which was on June 21st.

I knew I wanted to do an Arizona block - we have lots of fond memories there, and family living there. A few years ago, our nephew there got married and Mr. Sonny wore a suit and was the ring bearer. This pic was taken when we got there early to help set up. He's about a foot taller now. *sniff*

Here he is with his Papa and cousins. My SIL sent this to me.

Then it proceeded to POUR rain!! In Arizona! :) It was such a cool venue! My phone battery tanked, though and I don't have any good pics from during or after. But lots of fun was had! And these days the bride and groom have two toddlers!

While there, we took a side trip to the AZ Science Museum.. it had a great planetarium. Also, the shirt he got there still fits him and he still wears it..even though there's a hole under the arm. haha

Then, in 2019, on our epic road trip, we made a few stops in AZ.

The donkey descendants who still roam the streets of Oatman, an old western town..

Grand Canyon National Park..

Petrified Forest National Park..

Painted Desert..

Cliff Dwellings at Walnut Canyon..

Sunset Crater..

Meteor Crater..

So many recent memories in AZ! Plus, when I was a kid, we used to drive to Flagstaff to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins for Spring break. Good times!

So my quilt HAD to have this block! The shape of the state wasn't very inspiring so I based this one on the state flag. I like it! And it's pretty simple!

Here's how it works.

Using SCANT quarter inch seams, assemble your "Arizona Star" quilt block as shown below.

You'll have an 8 1/2" "ARIZONA STAR" quilt block. ha! Does that exist yet? If not, I just invented it. It's my take on the state flag. I'll forever call it the Arizona Star block now. haha :)

Thanks for popping in to read today and for enduring my trip down our AZ memory lane. :) I'll be back soon with more blocks! See you then! Have a great Friday!

Happy Stitching!

Your photos today reminded me of posts by Barbara at Three Cats Ranch (Catpatches.blogspot.com), who visited many of these Arizona locations on a recent camping trip. Such incredible country and amazing land formations.
