Christmas Tree Quilt Block Tutorial - Merry Christmas!

Feliz Navidad! Frohe Weinachten! Joyeux Noel! Buon Natale! Feliz Natal! Vrolijk kerstfeest! God jul! Vesele vanoce! Mutlu Noeller! Merry Christmas in all the languages. (Thanks, internet!) I decided to do an extra Christmas block tutorial as kind of a Christmas gift. Especially when I realized I had skipped over National Christmas Tree Day back when I first started this National Days scrap quilt project in November of 2019. How could I have skipped National Christmas Tree Day?!

I hope you're having a wonderful Christmas today! I'm typing this beforehand so I can have a technology free Christmas. :) I also hope you're staying warm wherever you are.

The original Christmas block tutorial that I did was this wreath.

Now, I'm so excited to share this next bit, because it's such a fun surprise. I started wondering how many wintry/holidayish blocks I had done already and what it might look like if I grouped some of these National Days quilt blocks into themed quilts. Look at this sweet small lap size Christmas quilt you could make FROM SCRAPS, using these National Days tutorials. If you see a block that hasn't posted yet, don't worry.. it's turn is coming! I love this so much!!

I had no idea this could be a possibility when I started this whole thing! I've since started grouping other similarly themed blocks together to see how they play in themed quilts. I'll share some of them in the future. They are SEW. FUN.

Okay, but first, back to this block tutorial.. Here's how it goes together.

Fabric A - Background
(2) 1 1/2 x 3 3/4"
(2) 1 3/4" sq.
(2) 1 3/4 x 3 1/4"
(2) 1 3/4 x 4"
(2) 2" sq.
(2) 2 x 2 3/4"
(2) 2 x 3 1/2"

Fabric B - Darker Green
(2) 1" sq. (~)
(3) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(2) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(1) 1 3/4 x 3"
(2) 2" sq.
(2) 2 x 3"

Fabric C - Lighter Green
(2) 1" sq. (~)
(1) 1 x 1 1/4" (+)
(1) 1 1/4 x 1 1/2"
(1) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 1 3/4"
(2) 1 3/4" sq.
(1) 1 3/4 x 2"
(2) 2" sq.

Fabric D - Red
(8) 1" sq. (~)

Fabric E - Brown
(1) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)

--Match the symbols (~,* etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.

Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above (only one of your units is double corners, though.. the rest only have a single corner flip), and fabrics and sizes indicated on unit, make the following:

After above units are completed, assemble block as shown below using SCANT quarter inch seams. You should have an 8 1/2" sq. Christmas tree quilt block. (8" finished in quilt.)

--------------------

That's all for now. Wishing you the merriest of Merry Christmases. I'll be back soon, tomorrow actually! With a new mini pattern to celebrate the New Year.

xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.

I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*if you're looking for any of the other 100 or so blocks I've posted so far. Getting closer to my goal of 144 blocks! If you know someone who loves MinecraftPokemon, and or Harry Potter, check out these free sew alongs, too! :) And if you're looking for any of my print patterns, or other fun quilty gifts, check out my Etsy shop here. Be back soon!
