Seriously..I think it needs stitches.: Girlfriends Day: Stick Girls Quilt Block Tutorial

Hi there! Welcome back! Today I'm sharing a quilt block tutorial for National Girlfriends Day, for my National Days scrap quilt project. It's *loosely* based on my girlfriend, Angela, and I. I say loosely because we aren't quite skinny stick figures, and she recently broke her arm but wouldn't let me draw it crooked. haha!

But other things are accurate. I'm a little darker than she is, her hair is shorter than mine, and I'm bright colors and she's neutrals. If we clothes shop together, she is constantly telling me that what I like is ugly and I'm constantly telling her to put something back because it makes her look like a 100 yr. old granny. haha! But we are those kind of friends, we have fun, even when we aren't having fun. So she will make a cameo appearance in my scrap quilt! :)

Here's how this block goes together.

Fabric A - Background

(2) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)

(4) 1 x 1 3/4" (=)

(2) 1 x 2" (>>)

(1) 1 x 2 3/4"

(4) 1 1/4" sq. (+)

(2) 1 1/4 x 8 1/2"

(2) 1 1/2 x 3 1/4"

(4) 1 3/4" sq.

(2) 1 3/4 x 2 3/4"

(1) 2" sq.

(2) 2 x 2 1/4"

Fabric B - Skin Tone #1

(1) 1" sq. (~)

(2) 1 x 1 3/4" (=)

(2) 1 x 2" (>>)

(1) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)

Fabric C - Skin Tone #2

(1) 1" sq. (~)

(2) 1 x 1 3/4" (=)

(2) 1 x 2" (>>)

(1) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)

Fabric D -Hair #1

(2) 1" sq. (~)

(4) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)

(1) 1 1/4 x 3"

Fabric E - Hair #2

(2) 1" sq. (~)

(2) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)

(1) 1 1/4 x 3"

Fabric F - Dress #1

(1) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)

(1) 2 1/4 x 3 1/2"

Fabric G - Dress #2

(1) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)

(1) 2 1/4 x 3 1/2"

--Match the symbols (*,+ etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.

Double Upper Corners

1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.

--Using above method, (2) 1 1/4" sq. of Fabric A and 1 1/4 x 3" rect. of Fabric D-long edge at the top, make one unit.

--Repeat steps using (2) 1 1/4" sq. of Fabric A and 1 1/4" x 3" rect. of Fabric E-long edge at the top.

--Repeat steps using (2) 1" sq. of Fabric D and 1 1/2 x 2" rect. of Fabric B-long edge at the top.

--Repeat steps using (2) 1" sq. of Fabric E and 1 1/2 x 2" rect. of Fabric C-long edge at the top.

--Repeat steps using (2) 1 3/4" sq. of Fabric A and 2 1/4 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric F-long edge at the top.

--Repeat steps using (2) 1 3/4" sq. of Fabric A and 2 1/4 x 3 1/2" rect. of Fabric G-long edge at the top.

Assemble block as shown below, using SCANT quarter inch seams.

You'll have an 8 1/2" sq. set of fabric girlfriends! (8" finished in quilt.)
