Seriously..I think it needs stitches.: Knock Knock; Tell A Joke Day Quilt Block Tutorial and Some Laughs

I hope we can all find time for more fun and laughter in the coming year! This next block represents National Tell A Joke Day in my National Days scrap quilt project. I didn't quite know what to do for this one.. I had already done *THIS BLOCK* for National Let's Laugh Day. So a laughing face (emoji) was out of the question. I waffled between LOL and HA but settled on "HA!" Then wondered what putting the two blocks together in a quilt might look like..

This block's not particularly inspiring, I know.. it's not my favorite block in this design exercise. But it's here and it represents telling jokes! :) Because jokes make us laugh and laughter is good for our health. :) My favorite Proverb of all time is "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine but a broken spirit drieth the bones." It's so true! I want to cross stitch it on a pillow for our house. :) But until then, I will have the HA! block in my scrap quilt to remind me not to take life too seriously and to always find time to laugh. Humor is definitely one of the things that helped me get through my 32 day hospital stay this last summer.

I also just remembered.. My son had this t-shirt when he was two years old that said "The twos aren't terrible, I'm having a great time!" And do you know every time he wore it, we had the best day, because I would just look at it and laugh on the inside every single time, no matter what "struggle" we were having that day. Laughter really can be the best medicine sometimes. Look what I found.. best shirt ever. haha Time sure flies.. that was 13 yrs. ago!

Anyway! I digress! Let's get on with the block tutorial so I can show you the funny quilt mockup at the end.

Just one more sidenote first.. If you want a good laugh today, nothing has made me laugh harder probably, than this story from Shayne Smith.. I googled it at the end and it did actually happen. Even crazier! If you have a minute after reading this today, sit down and have a laugh. Caution: you might snort and spit out your coffee. :)

Okay.. Onward! Here's how the "HA!" block works out.

Fabric A - Background

(1) 1 x 1 1/4" (=)

(1) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)

(1) 1 x 2"

(2) 1 x 2 1/4"

(2) 1 1/4" sq. (+)

(4) 1 1/4 x 4 1/2"

(2) 2 1/2 x 8 1/2"

Fabric B - "H"

(1) 1 x 1 1/4" (=)

(2) 1 1/4 x 4 1/2"

Fabric C - "A"

(1) 1 x 1 1/4" (=)

(1) 1 1/4 x 2 1/2"

(2) 1 1/4 x 3 3/4"

Fabric D - "!"

(1) 1 1/4 x 1 1/2"

(1) 1 1/2 x 3 1/4"

--Match the symbols (>,+ etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.

Double Upper Corners

1. Place a square at the left end or left upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
2. Stitch from right upper to left lower corner.
3. Clip, flip & press.
4. Place a square at the right end or right upper corner of a rectangle or larger square, right sides together.
5. Stitch from left upper corner to right lower corner.
6. Clip, flip & press.

--Using above method, (2) 1 1/4" sq. of Fabric A and 1 1/4 x 2 1/2" rect. of Fabric C-long edge at the top, make one unit.

--Assemble as shown below, using SCANT quarter inch seams.

You'll have an 8 1/2" sq. "HA!" quilt block. (8" when finished in quilt.)

Now onto the extra fun! I mocked this up just to see if anything would make me like this block better. haha! I mixed it with the Let's Laugh Day block and... lol. It's making me laugh out loud but I'm not sure if it's in a good way. haha! It's really fun to play at mixing them up, though, to see what it would look like. I tried to emphasize the scrappy look.

Creativity is sew fun!😄

I thought this quilt was rather hideous.. but when I showed my 15 y.o. he laughed and got the hugest smile. The kind where your eyes smile, too. I love that!! Then said he really liked it! So there ya go. Maybe a teen thing. I guess you just never know.. :)

I hope you at least got a small chuckle out of this one. :) Onward to the 144 goal! Getting closer now. Next on my list is Aviation Day. See you then!
