Food Quilt Block Tutorial: Pepperoni Pizza or Berry Pie?!

Today it's a pizza party here on my blog, because I've finally worked my way up to National Pepperoni Pizza Day in my National Days scrap quilt project! Remember being a kid in school and having a pizza party was the best thing going?

Here's how this pizza goes together. My son thought it was a pie, so I guess it could double as a pie block. Wait.. pizza is a pie right? When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore, right?

I plugged in some other fabrics to make it look blueberry pie-ish to see what it looked like... (blueberries are my fav!)

Okay, here's how this block works.

Fabric A - Background
(4) 2 1/2" sq.

Fabric B - Crust
(4) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(4) 3" sq.

Fabric C - Cheese (or filling)
(4) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(4) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(8) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(4) 2" sq.

Fabric D - Pepperoni (or berries)
(9) 1 1/2" sq. (*)

--Match the symbols (>,* etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.

Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on the unit, make the following corner units. Note the video shows double upper corners, but these units' corner flips are in opposing corners.

Assemble block as shown below, using SCANT quarter inch seams.

You will have an 8 1/2" sq. pepperoni pizza block. (8" when finished in quilt.)

Or blueberry pie..

Or STRAWBERRY pie!🍓

Or a pie table runner! With special guest appearances by the blackberry and peach pies! I don't hate it!

Thanks for stopping by for a read! I'll be back soon with the next block.

Until then, Happy Stitching!

xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
