National Talk Like a Pirate Day Quilt Block Tutorial
12:00 AM
Yay, Pirates! Nice pirates, though, not the dangerous mean pirates of the high seas.. Technically, it's *not* Talk Like a Pirate Day today, that was back in September, but here is the block to represent the day in my National Days scrap quilt project.. Also not the most *creative* or inspiring block in the project, but I tried.. haha! Arrrrrgh!
But it might make a cute pillow to go in a child's pirate themed room, though.. or as a companion pillow to my Captain Jack quilt! That's a throwback!
I just felt compelled to share something cute and pirate-y since the block itself is rather plain.. haha :) But now that I think about it, the block would look really cute made into a companion cushion for this quilt!!
Here's how the "Arr!" block works..
Fabric A - Background
(4) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(1) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2"
(1) 1 1/2 x 8 1/2"
Fabric B - White Bubble
(2) 1" sq. (~)
(1) 1 x 2 1/4"
(1) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(1) 1 1/4 x 1 1/2"
(1) 1 1/4 x 1 3/4"
(1) 1 1/4 x 2"
(1) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(2) 1 1/2 x 1 3/4"
(2) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2"
(1) 1 3/4 x 2 1/4"
(1) 1 3/4 x 6 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 4"
Fabric C - Black Letters
(2) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 x 1 1/4" (=)
(2) 1 x 2 1/4"
(2) 1 x 4"
(1) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(1) 1 1/4 x 2 1/2"
--Match the symbols (~,*, etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.
Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on the units, make the following:
You'll have an 8 1/2" sq. Pirate speak quilt block. (8" finished in quilt.)
And one more pic of Captain Jack hanging in the Riley Blake booth at fall Quilt Market that year. So fun!
I'll meet you back here in a couple of days with another block.. the next in line on my list is another food related block. :)
Thanks for dropping in today!
Happy Stitching!
xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*, if you're looking for any of the other 90 or so blocks I've posted so far. Getting closer to my goal of 144 blocks! If you know someone who loves Minecraft, Pokemon, and or Harry Potter, check out these free sew alongs, too! :) And if you're looking for any of my print patterns, or other fun quilty gifts, check out my Etsy shop here. Be back soon!
xx
