Semicolon Quilt Block for National Punctuation Day

Hello! Welcome back! It's time again for the next block on my National Days scrap quilt project list. Today I have a block to share for National Punctuation Day, another September block. Since I just recently posted the block for Ampersand Day, I thought this time, I would do a semicolon block. Especially since the semicolon can have a deeper meaning these days. It's become a symbol for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. You can read more about Project Semicolon *HERE*. This is my semicolon quilt block.

It has a few tiny corner flips but not that many pieces. It's a fairly quick one! Here's how it works.

Fabric A - Background
(7) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(2) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2"
(2) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"

Fabric B - Semicolon
(1) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(2) 2 1/2" sq.

--Match the symbols (~,* etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.

Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on the unit, make the following corner flip units. Note the video shows double upper corners, but these units' corner flips vary. One has four, one has three, and one has only one.

When you've made the above units, assemble block as shown below, using SCANT quarter inch seams.

You should have an 8 1/2" sq. semicolon quilt block! (8" when finished in quilt.)

That's it for this block! Pretty quick one, right? I'll be back soon with another block. Month one of 2022 is coming to a close, so far so good.. *knock on everything wood, faux wood, wood-colored or wood-like* haha In the meantime...

Happy Stitching!

xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
