Simple Bow Tie Quilt Block Tutorial

Hola! I'm back today with the next block tutorial for my National Days scrap quilt project. I like this one. It's so easy compared to some of the others. It's a block to represent National Bow Tie Day which was on August 28. This is the last August block. It's so scrap friendly!

I mocked it up in a couple of different scrappy looks to see what a quilt of bows would look like. The first has a small checked background. I think it's my favorite of the two. I'm currently crushing on gingham and plaid mixed with all the other prints.

The next is a white background but I like the busier prints and background of the first one.

Which do you prefer? Busier or not so busy?

Either way, the blocks are fast and easy. Here's how they go together.

Fabric A - Background
(4) 1 1/2 x 2 1/4"
(6) 2" sq.
(2) 2 1/4 x 8 1/2"

Fabric B - Bow
(2) 2 3/4 x 5"

Fabric C - Ribbon
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 2" sq.

--Match the symbol (*) in the cutting instructions with the symbol in the assembly diagram.

Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on unit, make the following:

Assemble block as shown below, using SCANT quarter inch seams.

You will have one 8 1/2" bow tie quilt block. (8" finished in quilt.)

Hope you've enjoyed this little bow tie!

I'll be back soon with the next in line. I hope you have a great day!

Happy Stitching!

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.

I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*if you're looking for any of the other 90 or so blocks I've posted so far. I love the bow tie block. It just so happens that I am long arming a Kentucky Derby quilt. I lived in Louisville, KY for a few years. When it come to the Derby, everything is about the horses, women in BIG hats and men in bow ties. I would love to have a BIG hat block to go with the bow ties.

Love all that youy do and am always wanting more. Great to have you back. Take it easy and keep up the wonderful work.
