Quilt Block Tutorial for National Sons Day
12:25 PM
Do you have a son that has your heart? I had to have a block to represent National Sons Day in my National Days scrap quilt project. How could I not!? National Sons Day is in September, or March depending on which calendar you look at. Here is my block and how to make your own, if you'd like.
This one uses up those one inch strips..
Here's how it goes together.
Fabric A - Background
(6) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 x 2"
(1) 1 x 2 1/2" (>>)
(3) 1 x 3"
(2) 1 x 4"
(2) 1 x 6 1/2"
(2) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(2) 1 1/4 x 1 1/2"
(1) 1 1/4 x 2 1/4"
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 6 1/2"
(2) 1 1/2 x 8 1/2"
Fabric B - Letters
(2) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(6) 1 x 2"
(3) 1 x 2 1/4"
(2) 1 x 2 1/2" (>>)
(2) 1 x 3"
(2) 1 x 4"
(1) 1 1/4 x 2 1/4"
Fabric C - Heart
(2) 1 1/2 x 3"
--Match the symbols (+,* etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.
Once you've completed the above clip & flip units, assemble block as shown below using SCANT quarter inch seams.
You will have an 8 1/2" sq. tribute to your son, 8" sq. when finished in quilt.
It would make a really cute quilt label, I think, for the back of a quilt made for a son. I can't do a Sons Day post without including a pic or two of said son who's enjoying his Naval Science class this year and has already volunteered at two all day events. *proud mom*
The next block on the list coming up will be the block for National Orange Shirt Day. But I still need to pop in and blog about a whole bunch of non-tutorial stuff.. and it's about time for Sirius Black to join the Harry Potter quilt block tutorials!
So I'll be back really soon! Until then..
Happy Stitching!
xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*, if you're looking for any of the other 100+ blocks I've posted so far. Getting closer to my goal of 144 blocks! If you know someone who loves Minecraft, Pokemon, and or Harry Potter, check out these free sew alongs, too! :) And if you're looking for any of my print patterns, or other fun quilty gifts, check out my Etsy shop here. Be back soon!
xx
