Scarf Quilt Block for National Scarf Day

So today's block for my National Days scrap quilt project is for Scarf Day. A tiny little scrappy scarf. It might make a cute companion to the red mitten block which was, I think, only the 4th block. This scarf is #119 I think!

It's a fairly simple one.

Here's how it works out.

Fabric A - Background
(1) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(1) 1 x 5 1/2"
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 2" sq.
(1) 2 1/4 x 3"
(1) 2 1/4 x 3 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 4 1/4"

Fabric B - Scarf
(1) 1" sq. (~)
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(1) 2 1/2 x 3"
(1) 2 3/4 x 3"
(1) 3" sq.
(1) 3 x 7"

Fabric C - Trim
(2) 1 1/2 x 3"

--Match the symbols (>,* etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.

Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on the unit, make the following corner flip units. Note the video shows double upper corners, but these units have one corner flip each.

Once you've completed the above clip & flip units, assemble block as shown below using SCANT quarter inch seams.

You will have an 8 1/2" sq. scarf quilt block, 8" when finished in quilt.

For fun, I mocked up a mini of scarves and mittens. With 1" sashing it would be 28" sq.

This whole exercise has been so much fun. I love all of these little scrappy blocks!

The next one on the list coming up will be the block for National Sons Day. But one of these days I'm going to pop in and blog about a whole bunch of non-tutorial stuff.. so much life has been happening.

See you soon! Hope you're staying well and warm this winter!

Happy Stitching!

xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
