Hair Quilt Block Tutorial for National Hair Day
6:00 AM
Well, I'm finally back, this time with another quilt block tutorial that lands firmly in the "things I never thought I'd make into quilt blocks" category. haha! This one is to represent National Hair Day in my National Days scrap quilt project. As odd as it is, I'm kind of loving it now. lol It has a kind of retro-ish shape.
It goes together like this..
Fabric A - Background
(6) 1" sq. (~)
(6) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(2) 1 1/2 x 6"
(1) 2 1/2 x 3" sq.
(1) 3 1/2" sq.
Fabric B - Hair
(4) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 x 2 1/2" (>>)
(2) 2 x 3 1/2"
(2) 2 1/2 x 3 1/2"
(2) 3 x 3 1/2"
--Match the symbols (~,* etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.
Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on the unit, make the following corner flip units. Note the video shows double upper corners, but these units' corner flips vary.
Note: For the two half square triangles, use this method with the 1" sq. of Fabrics A & B:
Once you've completed the above clip & flip units, assemble block as shown below using SCANT quarter inch seams.
You should have an 8 1/2" sq. block, 8" when finished in quilt.
I'll be back soon with the next block!
Hope you've had a great week and have a great weekend!
xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*, if you're looking for any of the other 100+ blocks I've posted so far. Getting closer to my goal of 144 blocks! If you know someone who loves Minecraft, Pokemon, and or Harry Potter, check out these free sew alongs, too! :) And if you're looking for any of my print patterns, or other fun quilty gifts, check out my Etsy shop here. Be back soon!
xx

this is fun. thanks.
Hi Kelli
This hair reminds me of my "flip" in high school in the 60's! Love it!
All your blocks are great. I was wondering if you could add the dates for these blocks like you did at the beginning.
Love and thanks
