Summer Flew By & a GOLF Quilt Block Tutorial
9:03 PM
WOW, has summer zipped right by or what?!
I lagged behind, mocking up these monthly markers/mini calendar quilts for my IG account, using the National Days block tutorials. So here are all the summer months lumped together. It's always fun to see which blocks fit with which month!
We spent five weeks this summer getting partially moved to MO then road tripped back here just in time for the school year to begin. I can't believe we have a 10th grader who will soon be old enough to drive!
The puppies are getting huge. Nine months old now! Dixie and her baby dino, Yoda Chance..
They handled the road trips fairly well.. and were so, so excited to meet Yogi the trucking Goldendoodle from AL, at a truck stop in TX! I was too, if I'm being honest. He was also their same age! So much dog love. And his parents were so nice! We had a nice visit, in a small field area behind the truck stop while the dogs ran around.
So in trying to get back on the wagon and get on with it, I thought I'd post this quilt block tutorial, that I originally drew up to represent National Golf Appreciation Day (Oct. 4) in my National Days scrap quilt project.. It's a simple one. Less pieces than some of the others.. I changed it just a *tiny* bit since making the graphic below.
My dad loves to golf so this will be a fun tribute to him.
I want to share the original DAD block again, too, speaking of my dad.. I did this one to represent Father's Day..
Wouldn't these make a fun set of BBQ hot pads? Speaking of BBQ..
For Father's Day, birthday, or even Christmas gifts! My brother and SIL love to golf too.. Hmm.. okay, okay I'll stop. hahaha! (All of the past block tutorials are on the National Days page.)
Onward! Here's how the golf quilt block goes together.
Fabric A (background):
(2) 1 1/2 x 6"
(4) 2" sq.
Fabric B (ball):
(1) 6 x 6 1/2"
Fabric C (tee):
(1) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(1) 2 x 4"
Fabric D (grass):
(2) 1 1/2 x 2" (#)
(2) 2" sq.
(2) 2 3/4 x 3"
--Match the symbols (#,> etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.
--------------------
Once you've completed the above corner flip units, assemble block as shown below using SCANT quarter inch seams.
You'll have an 8 1/2" sq. golf quilt block. (8" when finished in quilt.)
Do you know any golfers that might appreciate this one? Hope you enjoyed it! I'll be back soon with the next quilt block tutorial in line for this project. And another extra Harry Potter themed quilt block tutorial, and some more newsy bits. :)
Until then, wishing you Happy Stitching! Thanks for visiting & have a great weekend!
xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*, if you're looking for any of the other 100+ blocks I've posted so far. Getting closer to my goal of 144 blocks! If you know someone who loves Minecraft, Pokemon, and or Harry Potter, check out these free sew alongs, too! :) And if you're looking for any of my print patterns, or other fun quilty gifts, check out my Etsy shop here. Or my new shop right here on my website *HERE*. Be back soon!
xx
