Harry Potter Quilt: Marauder's Map Quilt Block Tutorial
7:38 PM
In 2019, when I started with the Harry Potter quilt along, I never thought I would still be adding extra blocks to the mix years later or that there would be so many blocks!.. But I keep getting suggestions for extras, and you know I love a challenge.. So when Kay mentioned a block for the Marauder's Map, I thought hmmm.. how could we do it, keeping it classic patchwork.. This is what I came up with. I hope it translates!
It's construction is pretty simple. Here's the how for this one..
Fabric A - background:
(6) 1 x 1 1/2" (>)
(1) 1 x 2 1/2" (>>)
(2) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(1) 1 1/2 x 3"
(3) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(3) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2" (****)
(1) 1 1/2 x 8 1/2"
(1) 1 1/2 x 18 1/2"
(5) 2 1/2" sq.
(1) 2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2 x 3"
(1) 2 1/2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2 x 4"
(1) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2 x 5 1/2"
(1) 3 x 4 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 4 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 5"
(1) 4 1/2 x 5"
(1) 4 1/2 x 10 1/2"
(1) 5 1/2 x 8 1/2"
Fabric B - shoe prints:
(2) 1 1/2 x 3"
(2) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(2) 1 1/2 x 3 1/2" (***)
(2) 2 x 3 1/2"
(2) 3 x 4"
Fabric C - map (left):
(1) 2 1/2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2"
Fabric D - map (right):
(1) 2 1/2 x 3 1/2"
(1) 2 1/2 x 4 1/2"
Fabric E - map title:
(4) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
Fabric F - black dots:
(1) 1 1/2 x 18 1/2"
--Match the symbols (*,** etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.
Stitch 1 1/2 x 18 1/2" strips of Fabrics A and F together on long edge, using scant quarter inch seam. Then, cut into (12) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangles as shown below.
--------------------
Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on the unit, make the following corner flip units. Note the video shows double upper corners, but these units' corner flips vary.
Once you've completed the above clip & flip units, assemble block sections as shown below using SCANT quarter inch seams. Label and set aside.

Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:
--------------------
After completing the nine sections, assemble block as shown below. You will have an 18 1/2" sq. (18" finished in quilt) Marauder's Map quilt block.
That's it for this block. I'll be back soon with more blocks and news. Meet me back here soon!
Happy Stitching!
