TV Quilt Block Tutorial for National I Love Lucy Day & Lucy's Stitched Hugs
12:59 PM
Hello again!💟 I'm back to share the next quilt block tutorial in line for my National Days scrap quilt project. This block is for National I Love Lucy Day!
This block is close to my heart, because I grew up watching black & white reruns of the I Love Lucy show. I loved it then, and still do.
This block uses ALLLL the tiny scraps and MUCH corner flipping. SCANT quarter inch seams will be super important. It's definitely not for the faint, but will be worth it, I think! Because who doesn't love Lucy? 😃
Be sure to tackle it when you're feeling extra patient!
Here's how it works out..
Fabric A - background:
(8) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(1) 1 1/4 x 3"
(1) 1 1/4 x 3 1/2"
(6) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
Fabric B - TV legs:
(2) 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
Fabric C - TV cabinet:
(2) 1 x 2"
(2) 1 x 2 3/4"
(2) 1 x 6"
(4) 1 3/4" sq.
Fabric D - TV screen:
(12) 1" sq. (~)
(4) 1 x 1 1/4"
(1) 1 x 1 3/4"
(2) 1 x 2 1/4"
(2) 1 x 2 3/4"
(2) 1 x 6"
(4) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(1) 1 1/4 x 1 1/2"
(2) 1 1/4 x 2"
(1) 1 1/4 x 6"
(2) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(1) 1 1/2 x 1 3/4"
(1) 1 1/2 x 2 1/4"
Fabric E - letters:
(3) 1 x 1 1/4"
(3) 1 x 1 3/4"
(6) 1 x 2"
(2) 1 1/4 x 1 1/2"
Fabric F - heart:
(2) 1 1/2 x 2 1/4"
Fabric G - antennae:
(2) 1 1/4 x 1 3/4"
--Match the symbols (~,* etc.) in the cutting instructions with the symbols in the assembly diagram.
--------------------
Once you've completed the above clip & flip units, assemble block as shown below using SCANT quarter inch seams.
If you made it to the end, you have just stitched 82, yes EIGHTY-TWO, tiny scraps into an 8 1/2" (8" finished in quilt) I Love Lucy TV quilt block!!! The math involved in this one had my brain doing all kinds of twists and turns.
Before I go, I want to give a quick shout out to another loveable Lucy. Meet my internet friend's daughter, Lucy, of Lucy's Stitched Hugs!
Lucy is amazingly gifted and kind, and has been sewing quilts, pillows, and stuffed animals for kids and donating them to all sorts of organizations since she was nine years old. She has the hugest heart! This block reminds me of her.💓 She relies on donated supplies. I've had lots of people offer to pay me for the free blocks/sewalongs and I really mean for all of that to be free.. but if you'd like, and if you have a spare dollar (I know times are tough everywhere right now!), please consider donating to Lucy's fundraising page *HERE* so she can purchase supplies to keep up her Lucy's Stitched Hugs.
That's it for loveable Lucys for today!
Thanks for dropping in for a visit! Before I say bye for now, I'll leave you with this scene from one of the most iconic I Love Lucy episodes.
I hope you've enjoyed this block! Be back soon.
Until then, Happy Stitching!
xoxo,

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*, if you're looking for any of the other 100+ blocks I've posted so far. Getting closer to my goal of 144 blocks! If you know someone who loves Minecraft, Pokemon, and or Harry Potter, check out these free sew alongs, too! :) And if you're looking for any of my print patterns, or other fun quilty gifts, check out my Etsy shop here. Be back soon!
xx
