Ice Cream Sundae Quilt Block Tutorial
4:00 AM
Happy Friday!
Popping in today to share this ice cream sundae quilt block tutorial that I drew up for National Sundae Day, which was in November.
I think after this one, there are only two left to get to the 144 total for my National Days scrap quilt project . The king size scrap quilt!
I just can't wait to share the whole grid with you, all filled in!
Okay, here's how this one goes together.
Fabric A - background:
(4) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(3) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
(3) 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" (**)
(2) 2" sq.
(2) 2 x 4 3/4"
(2) 3 x 3 1/4"
Fabric B - dish:
(1) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2"
(1) 3 x 5 1/2"
Fabric C - scoop one:
(1) 2 1/4 x 3 1/4"
Fabric D - scoop two:
(1) 2 1/4 x 2 3/4"
Fabric E - cherry:
(1) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
Fabric F - whipped cream:
(2) 1" sq. (~)
(1) 1 1/4 x 3 1/2"
(1) 1 1/2" sq. (*)
Fabric G - scoop three:
(1) 1" sq. (~)
(2) 1 1/4" sq. (+)
(1) 1 1/2 x 3"
Using the simple corner flip method illustrated in the video above, and fabrics and sizes indicated on the unit, make the following corner flip units.
When the above units are done, assemble your ice cream sundae quilt block as shown below, using SCANT quarter inch seams.
You'll have a fun, colorful, fabric ice cream sundae!
I love this block. I had mocked it up a few different times because it's so much fun to try different colors. But I finally settled on the pink stripey bowl. :) I love the light, happy colors. The block will be 8 1/2" sq. at this point. 8" when finished in quilt.
I hope it's brought some fabric cheer to your day!
I have some new quilt patterns that I need to get caught up on posting, and I need to get another HP block tutorial done up, too, so stay tuned and pop back in soon. Thanks for dropping by today!
Happy weekend and happy stitching!
xoxo

P.S. I love to see blocks and quilts that are made with any of my patterns. If you make any and post on social media, please come find me in any of the places listed below, and tag me so I can see! :) If you're on YouTube, check out the short musical video tutorials of some of these blocks. I'm hoping they might inspire kids, or anyone really, to learn to sew. :) Plus, they're just fun to do.
I'm keeping all of these blocks organized on the National Days quilt blocks page *HERE*, if you're looking for any of the other 100+ blocks I've posted so far. Getting closer to my goal of 144 blocks! If you know someone who loves Minecraft, Pokemon, and or Harry Potter, check out these free sew alongs, too! :) And if you're looking for any of my print patterns, or other fun quilty gifts, check out my Etsy shop here. Be back soon!
xx
